Just wondering...

how would a 25 yr old individual with a child to support in FT work (flexible working hours) go about training in this industry... hmm...

There doesn't seem to be any (that I can find) private courses that could help build up some knowledge before approaching garages and giving them an actual reason for taking on a PTer

Flexible work in a lot of garages is can you work until you drop dead or the customers car your working on is finished.

I am self taught, But a mate did do a course run through the job centre at the time.

He said it was useless. Mainly full of car thieves and young lads that did more damage to the tools and equipment than any real work.

Not sure if its still the same these days.

A lot of Technical Colleges run evening courses to gain NVQ qualification. Short of doing an Apprenticeship, that's the only way of becoming qualified to be honest. Check with local colleges. They will charge at your age (up to 21-yrs old you could qualify for it free I believe!).
