Laptop repair required

Can anyone recommend a reasonably-priced place in Liverpool for laptop repairs?

I bought it in Best Buy over a year ago but it no longer trades in the UK so I can't take it back there.

Another question - do Currys and PC World repair laptops even if they weren't bought from there?

  • Here is a video of what needs to be done - http://blog.parts-people.com/2012/04/17/dell-inspiron-15r-n5010-m501r-m5010-lcd-hinge-removal-and-installation/

Should I attempt this myself or not?

Hinge replacement is a fairly straightforward DIY job.

Are you certain it's the hinge that needs replacing, not the plastics?

The part I've circled below is rather loose and the right side of the screen wobbles if I move it with little force. However, the left is very stable and does not move at all... So I suppose it is the hinge (or am I wrong)?

It might be the hinge, it could also be the plastics the hinge is attached too. It's also possible that the hinge screws simply need tightening.

Has it become loose over a period of time, or after a particular event?

OP has circled the hinge cap. Would be a tad difficult for him to circle the hinge itself without partially dismantling the laptop

Yes they do (though 'repair' is dubious), but you'd be quite insane to entrust your laptop to DSG-for anything remotely specialised like stripping down a laptop, they'd sub it out anyway.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thanks for the replies. It has become loose over a period of time.

I emailed Best Buy telling them I have a problem and they emailed back with a freephone number to call. I will take it from there.

Likelihood is the hinge screws have come loose and just need tightening.
