  • I gave up on Asda when they didn't send any substitute for potatoes. I seriously doubt they'd run out of all the potatoes they stock.

I had this problem with Tesco's. I was getting over 10 subs a week (some weeks 20+ subs), random subs like nappies instead of cat food, shampoo instead of carrots, opened cupboard food for 6 weeks in a row, whole baskets of shopping missing like all my freezer or fruit/veg stuff missing so I complained. They barred me from shopping online with them and when i asked why, they said that it was because they couldn't provide me with the service I deserved! lol. I also checked the local store that my shopping was picked from to find items in stock and even the manager agreed that he couldn't understand the level of subs I was getting because the items had not been out of stock. I now shop with Sainsburys and they are amazing!

If it did come from your local store then the item was probably out of stock at the time of picking. Picking starts at 4am in our store, if it was a chilled pizza you ordered then that delivery isnt usually worked until around 9am in our store. if it was an early slot betwen 7am and say 11am when it was delivered then your order would have been among the first ones picked at 4am x i find that there are more subs on the early morning deliveries as our manager sends a colleague out with a list of subs later on after deliveries have been worked to see if anything is now available before each van goes out.

I found ASDA worst for subs and I never do early morning slots. Tesco wasn't much better and my local Tesco is a big 24/7 store. Sainsbury's here isn't huge and orders come from bigger store 25 miles away - subs were fairly rare but they were often late. Waitrose does come from local store even though it's not that big. Waitrose let you state no subs. I'm liking Ocado I have to say.

The orders will come from a separate automated factory FYI.

Usually get a couple of replacements, just had an order without any, no complaints at all.
  • I have had some horrors from ASDA, the worst was my daughter's birthday barbeque when the delivery arrived an hour late on the night before the party with NO frozen or chilled items. Rang the store and was promised it would arrive the next morning, a guy DID arrive but just with chilled goods, they then sent a guy out in his car with a coolbox and all of my frozen goods!! Did manage to get £10 voucher from them on that occassion but it was all a bit stressful.

The funniest substitute I have ever received was when I ordered Yeast extract (own brand Marmite) and received dried yeast, tasted yummy on my toast!!!!!!:rotfl::rotfl:

    Hi all :)

My other half and I have recently starting doing our grocery shopping online and getting it delivered in a bid to reduce our weekly bill and stop the impulse buys!

All was going well until this morning - 4 substitutions and 2 items not in stock with no replacement available which meant that 2 dinners, including tonight's were no longer doable! (Quite how they couldn't substitute one pizza for another is beyond me...)

Anyhow, I went to our local Asda in order to get something to replace the dinners that were missing and decide that I would check the shelves for the items that they claimed not to have.

I managed to find EVERY SINGLE item that they had had to substitute and I even managed to get the two items that "weren't in stock". In some cases, the item that they had had to substitute were directly next to the items that they had substituted!

Has this or similar happened to anyone else? Did you get anywhere contacting Asda? I'm tempted to switch to another supermarket, I'm really disappointed!

We had this happen with Waitrose recently and yes it does come from our local waitrose; they even refurbished the entire store so they could add on a large 'warehouse' upstairs. I know they mainly pick their orders from the warehouse and if something is finished up there they come down to the main shop to see if the item is there. Last time they didn't bring any of the milk we ordered and didn't even try and substitute it even though we ticked the box for that, saying milk was 'unavailable', similarly out of all the frozen veg we ordered they sent the brocolli and again didn't even try to sub the others. On another occasion we ordered nappies and put in the little comment box that we would accept any similar nappies to the same value or similar value provided they were the same size, again apparently all the nappies were unavailable and we were completely out of them at home meaning we had to make a trip to go and get some. The last time with the milk and the veggie a few hours later, and we know this waitrose only get their deliveries in the early morning so they could not have had any since, my OH went in and the frozen sweetcorn was out of stock for real but nothing else was. I really get the feeling whatever staff were picking the order couldn't be arsed to go downstairs into the main shop and look there so they just put unavailable. I've had bad experiences with most other online food shopping providers so not sure what to do now. Its a shame because as a 'real life' shop the local waitrose cannot be beat but sometimes those heavy items are far easier delivered; because we live on the third floor xx

I did know someone who had the same issue with Sainsbury's and also got banned; this was in NI though. Tesco lost my custom when they thought 'no bags' meant them coming into my kitchen which was by my front door and dumping several big glass bottles of pasatta into the stainless steel sink, smashing them to smithereens. Then the driver just legged it while I was asking OH what on earth had happened. I was finding glass fragments behind the cupboards and down the side of the washing machine for months. Sainsbury's were ok but delivery driver was a bit brusque and again they made some unsuitable substitutions. Also found their site like something from 1996 and not very user friendly. xx

I have done this too as Asda were so unreliable and I was always emailing CS with a list of complaints! Tesco are much better... so far...

I also find Asda to be shocking at home deliveries (although I am sure it must be better in other areas).

I ordered my Christmas shop one year and it came two days late after numerous phone calls. I vowed then, never again.

About a year later there was an offer on that I couldn't refuse. They took the money twice (one lot ear marked, the other to pay for the goods) leaving me with no money until the ear marked amount went back into my account. I vowed then, really, never again.

Then the other week (about a year plus since the above incident) I succumbed and ordered some nappies in the baby event. The bulk of my order was the nappies the rest was one box of wipes. They didnt deliver the nappies and nor did they substitute them for any other nappies so I paid delivery on something I could have carried home in a carrier bag from the store. This time - NEVER again.

IMHO Tesco and Sainsburys are miles better.

The worst with home shopping for me was with ASDA, when a big bottle of bleach had been leaking in the van. The delivery lady never noticed, (dont know how you dont recognise the smell of bleach), the carrier bags were soaking and she put the bags down on my brown carpet!!!!! I luckily noticed that they were wet when i picked up the bags and asked her if she had noticed and she just smiled at me, went "oh yes thought it was water!"
Would you not be concerned where the water was coming from either then????? As i had acted so quickly to lift the bags up no serious damage was done, but the carpet needed a bit of a trim, looked like highlights! Phoned ASDA customer services and they were worse than useless, so im now a TESCO girl.
