online grocery shopping ASDA

Hi all :)

My other half and I have recently starting doing our grocery shopping online and getting it delivered in a bid to reduce our weekly bill and stop the impulse buys!

All was going well until this morning - 4 substitutions and 2 items not in stock with no replacement available which meant that 2 dinners, including tonight's were no longer doable! (Quite how they couldn't substitute one pizza for another is beyond me...)

Anyhow, I went to our local Asda in order to get something to replace the dinners that were missing and decide that I would check the shelves for the items that they claimed not to have.

I managed to find EVERY SINGLE item that they had had to substitute and I even managed to get the two items that "weren't in stock". In some cases, the item that they had had to substitute were directly next to the items that they had substituted!

Has this or similar happened to anyone else? Did you get anywhere contacting Asda? I'm tempted to switch to another supermarket, I'm really disappointed!

In the end I stopped using Asda as it became a joke, I never once had a full order delivered.
So I gave Tesco a try and they are much better. 100% correct ir decent subs.

  • OP your Asda delivery may not come from your local store.

I assumed they did until I got talking with my delivery lady and said they came from another store (just checked and it is 25.3 miles away).

So what is in stock in your store may not be in another. It is very frustrating though when something is not in stock or they deliver a totally useless subsitiute, but these can always be sent back

My online shopping doesnt come from my local store either - it comes from 20 miles away. I suppose they have to draw a boundary and I am on the other side of it.

Diane is correct, your local store may not be the actual store where your delivery comes from. Even though I dont work for Asda but still a company who offers the same service, my store used to deliver to customers over 30 miles away because there just wasn't a store that was closer who had the capability to have the facility to have groceries picked and delivered.

Disappointed in what ? Not getting what you ordered ?

Yes its annoying when you dont get what you ordered. You can try complaining as it wont cost you anything will it.

Cant answer why no sub was made for the pizza you ordered.

As people have already said, the delivery may have come from a different store. But another possibility is that, assuming it did come from your closest one, the items were out of stock at time of picking, but restocked by the time you got there. The pickers generally won't check the warehouse so they will only get it if it's on the shelf at the time.

  • Thanks for your responses :) I did wonder if perhaps they might not use the local store. And yes, disappointed that I didn't get what i ordered but also that I could find the items myself in-store! That coupled with my order being late with no call to let me know, I might try a competitor just to see what they are like. Like I said, New to online grocery shopping so I'm still learning :) thanks again!

    ^^^^^^^

I have done this too as Asda were so unreliable and I was always emailing CS with a list of complaints! Tesco are much better... so far...

I used them for the first time this week and they had every single item I picked and as it was quite a large shop, I was expecting a few items to be 'out of stock'. The only thing I never got was my cigarettes. I thought substitutions were automatic but the driver explained that if I'd have put a substitute down for the cigarettes then I'd more than likely have got a more expensive brand, so it was my fault for not knowing about that.

The delivery guy was brilliant about explaining things too and would have took them into the house if required.

Edit: There was a 2 for £2 deal on Winalot dog biscuits so I ordered 6 but only 5 turned up and they were charged at the full price of £1.68 each - total of £8.40. A quick phone call to the store and I got all 5 for £5 and a refund on my card - all sorted out within a couple of minutes.

As someone said in a previous post - the pickers in my local Asda start at 2am (!) and the night shelf stackers finish at 8am. I work in a 24 hour store and it may have been the case that the pickers would have been going around choosing items that the shelf stackers had not yet put out.

I'ver used an online ordering service but this is the first thing that came to my mind.
