This really is overkill (fixed IP addys for all of them), if the DHCP server element of the router is working properly you shouldn't get any conflicts....check you haven't set the router to only use a set range of IP addys.

It's got a range from 0.2 to 0.254 so plenty to choose from but my lappy and netbook both decided they wanted 0.11 lol

The problem I have with current router is it losing sight of attached devices so I have to constantly reboot whenever I want to print or access anything over the network. It doesn't drop internet connection, that's rock solid, just the visibility of devices.

Haven't read any details at all, but i doubt there is anything wrong with your existing router, unless your aerial is loose - you may get the same problems with a new one.

If you are using fixed addresses on each of your wireless devices
    1) Stop DHCP on the router
    or
    2) use a dhcp address range like 240-254 (just in case you have 15 guests in the house at the same time)

Hmmm doing that has just cleared the entire list of reserved addresses....oooops!!

DCM is right, and now you'll have to re-enter each one in turn, or only reserve a couple for the problem devices and leave the DHCP server to sort the rest out, or assign static IP's on the devices themselves. There are many possibilities without changing the router, it's all about getting your settings right on it and the devices you want to use with it......

edit - are you sure the lappy and netbook don't have fixed IP addys assigned within them already, and that's why you're getting the conflict ??

I'm currently using a Netgear DG834Gv5 which I've had for 5+ years and was a replacement for an earlier Netgear model, again which lasted several years so I'm keen to stick with this brand, assuming of course the latest models are reliable and robust.

Great modems those, but they do break after a while - there is a known problem with a capacitor drying out. You can replace them for a few quid if you're handy with a soldering iron. As has been mentioned the Netgear stuff has generally gone downhill since then but they do still have a couple of decent products if you can be bothered to sort the wheat from the chaff.

You can still buy the DG834G/GT if you look around for about £50 brand new. I just put a couple in at work because I like them but they were the none-wireless models.

Billion have a good rep and I have a 7800N like others on this thread have mentioned. It is a good bit of kit with really nice software and configuration options. Not had it long enough to comment on reliability but it seems stable enough. Not seen anything about a MAC limit, but is this for MAC filtering, or for DHCP reservation, or something else? It's a bit of a vague comment.

I've done just that, re-assigned IPs for the NAS, printer, lappy and netbook and will leave the rest to sort themselves out. It seemed they were both instructed to connect to the same IP as when I ran ipconfig/all they both came up with the entry "192.168.011 (preferred)" which is how I discovered the problem.

Ahhhh now it said something about MAC filtering so maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick and it means something completely different :o

I'll probably end up sticking with this Netgear for now due to indecisiveness. I periodically think about looking for a new router, do a bit of research then buy nothing lol

I've recently expanded the network to include quite a few devices though, two new windoze machines, a NAS and PVR network so want to stream HD content and don't think this router will be up to it. It's coped remarkably well this week with huge amounts of data transfer but I've yet to test streaming a HD film. It would serve as a handy spare back-up if I do buy a new one though.
