  • I have the same problem ! I went to sainsburys to buy some dinner and I got declined then went to the cash machine straight after that also declined, I tried withdrawing £500 and it said declined ! I did a tex balance and it showed a reduction in balance so I called the automated line for the last 5 transactions and it tells me that I had processed the above ? But no money came out from they cash machine no receipt ? Have I lost £500 ?? I'm in panic ? They charge me for cash withdrawal even for the declined goods at sainsbury which I have the reciept for !

Would it not be possible for online banking to show what money is due out of your account and by who? I know it shows on the available balance but not who has taken the money

Would save on phone calls to the bank

Not uncommon for a atm to not dispense cash... It is a machine after all.
Is that atm trans showing on your account ? If it is contact bank and get them to dispute for non reciept of cash.
Same with shop trans. If you have the void slip, then if it debits it can be disputed....

If a retailer ever tells you a chip/pin has not gone through. GET THE VOID SLIP AND KEEP IT.
Without that, if it debits your card provider cannot dispute the transaction. And you are stuck resolving with the retailer.

Unlikely. If I had had a small charge for my dinner declined in Sainsburys it is very very unlikely that I would have gone straight to an ATM and tried a £500 credit card cash withdrawal! Expensive dinner!
  • The same happened to me and I am in a middle of a dispute with Lloyds TSB and if anyone can help with some helpful info I would really appreciate it.

I withdrew £500 from a Llloyds TSB atm on my Barclays Business Card about 4 weeks ago in London and it did not dispense my cash.

The machine then went out of order.

I immeadiately went on to my Barclays Mobile Online Banking and much to my horror I had been debited with £500 and nothing to show for it!

A lady next to me also withdrew £10 and it did not dispense anything for her eithier.

We both went into the bank and voiced our concerns and they said we would have to get in touch with our banks which I did.

I got a reply from Barclays about 2 weeks after the failed withdrawl to say that Lloyds had decided to deny my transaction and it would not allow Barclays to credit my account, in other words they thought I was lying.

I also contacted the Lloyds TSB Branch where I attempted to withdraw my money and I expressed that I had been deeply inconvenienced throughout this whole ordeal and she amazingly agreed to credit my account with £25 as a gesture of goodwill.

I am now a little confused as on the one hand Lloyds atm settlement team had denied the money to go back on to my account, and on the other hand, they credited my account with £25. Surely they have accepted liability and I would love to hear your views to this and any suggestions or comments are welcome.

    Regards

    Nick

When you don't get cash out of a ATM you go to YOUR card provider and they will start a dispute with the ATM owner on your behalf.

When your bank get a reply from the atm they will let you know if the cash was provided or not. They may or may not refund you upfront while it is being investigated.

Lloyds would not, not allow Barclays to credit you back. Any credit back would be Barclays responsibility.
Only thing I can think is Lloyds have said that the cash was taken. But that is contrary to what Lloyds have done, when you spoke to them.
Did they give you the £500 as well as the £25?

I'm confused - are you saying that two machines next to each other both failed to dispense cash at the same time, or did the machine that you used and which went out of order then spring back into life in time for the lady to make a failed attempt to withdraw her £10?

If the latter, I would be very concerned. If the former, this should have shown up on the ATM reconcilliation and would have to have been a system glitch which the bank would have knowledge of.

Either way, in the situation you describe my immediate concern at the time would be the possibility of some sort of Lebanese Loop device trapping the notes (although you would be incredibly unlucky if that had happened).
