My Card was Declined but yet the Funds were Taken

Hi, wonder if anyone can help me, i ordered a take away from Just Eat this evening, I paid with my debit card but was told my card was declined, there was no reason why as I knew I had funds to cover it, so I tried to make the payment again, declined yet again, thought it was a temporary glitch on their website, so tried again a few minutes later, declined again....checked my bank balance and phoned my bank to find out exactly what had come out of my account and they confirmed that 3 payments are pending for Just Eat......are they allowed to do this, decline the card but yet take the funds, have been in touch with Just East, they tell me as a security measure, the funds were reserved but then my card was declined, now I have to wait up to 7 days to have the funds back, so not happy!

Something here is not right. The card cannot have been declined if 3 authorisations were taken. Yes, in theory you will have to wait for the authorisations to drop off. Just Eat have never 'taken the funds' as you put it, these are just authorisations at this stage although you have no way of knowing if some or all of these authorisations will actually be debited later.

Suggest you call your bank again and tell them that this is a triplicate authorisation for the same charge and that according to Just Eat all 3 were declined.

What you claim Just Eat told you is nonsense. How can funds be reserved as a 'security measure' and then the transactions declined. Declined by who? Just Eat? Maybe they don't want to deliver to your address or something????

Did you ever get the food by the way? Just out of curiosity, why did you bother with Just Eat rather than calling the local take away restaurant directly and ordering directly from them without involving Just Eat as the middle man? Less possibility of mistakes if you do it that way.

I think it will show as pending but doesn't mean to say it will go out of your account.
We were on holiday this year and i tried to make a withdrawal,but no money came out of the machine. I phoned my bank straight away and they said it is showing as pending,but keep an eye on the account and if it does go out of the account they will investigate and return our money.
It appeared there was no money in the cash machine, but still showed up as pending. Hope this helps you a bit.

I tried Just Eat, but it only mentioned a restaurant 3 miles away, despite the fact that there is 2 within a 5 minute walking distance. In total, I'd say it misses out about 4 in the local area. It did offer me a place that sold alcoholic beverages (first item on the menu was '15 cans of carling') and various cigarettes. Never visited again since.

Why do people persist in pressing the button again and again when they get a decline message....
More often that not these debit your account. Because the error is in the retailer cart taking too long and it giving a generic error message of a decline.

You pressed the purchase button each time, so how are the retailer not to know you don't want 3 lots of something....

Auths, and they are just that. Might not debit, might debit. Can sit there of 14 days before dropping off.

Never used just eat, but do they send you a conformation email about the purchase?
Did you get 3 lots of food?

Ive used Just Eat, and there is any option to pay in cash on arrival. Always find that best to use

Off subject but I remember many years ago an article appeared in the Daily Telegraph just after Christmas that people were so broke they were even buying food and putting it on their credit card.

This was about 40 years ago. How things have changed.

Normal reason for delcline is if address match does not happen

It's up to the individual takeaways to register with Just-eat. If none of them do other than the one selling fags and beer then they can only do orders from that one.

I use their service regularly. It's very convenient, especially if you don't happen to have cash.

You just can't withdraw them. Yet.
