    Barcodes are wonderful things;)
If you mean the 'pretend' bar codes that some sellers use, I haven't tried this yet. To be honest the amount of lost post I have had is probably worth less than printing a batch of barcodes for all my deliveries anyway!! Last time I checked it was about 50 reported as INR out of 10,000 which is less than half a percent!!

Probably about the same as mine, and my 'losses' are even less if i take out the Italian ones where I relent and post something despite my blocks

My neighbours took in something for me yesterday, recorded delivery no sig and still showing as in transit if I check track and trace

I guess the average person doesn't know much about Recorded Delivery and although it says Signed For on the label I guess some assume it means the postman signed for it as they haven't.

INR claims aren't massive but I do find it interesting that none have been RD parcels in the last 2 and a half years (and the last I remember was signed for but customer claimed not by them), could just be a coincidence to be fair.

50 out of 10,000 isn't bad, unless you do 10,000 sales a month and the two INR messages a day start to get you down...

Just about to start selling on our own website later this month and I'm very interested to see if there will be any difference in INR claims. As it's an Amazon webstore the customer will be using their Amazon account to complete checkout and although turnover is much lower on Amazon there does seem to be less issues with missing parcels.

don't be so sure. When I was selling a lot on amazon I had a higher percentage of INRs and returns than I did on eBay overall

  • I'd say never, Royal Mail will compensate for lost post up to £46, although over £20 I use myHermes or for if you prefer to drop-off, Collect+

    Exactly, I've always thought this.

I've only ever had one RD delivery where the customer claimed not received. I put a claim in with RM and it was paid out so either the customer knew about the 'glitch' or it really was lost.

I wish that was monthly!! :D

I sell on Amazon Marketplace as well as eBay - there are far more INR claims from ebay than Amazon!!

That pretty much bucks the trend from what I am aware of. Its a regular topic on the wholesale forums and Amazon is generally regarded as a much safer place to sell than ebay.

I hit a really bad patch at one point and with so few sales on Amazon the few losses really made a difference. I even had a claim for loss from the drop ship company that gets mentioned as a problem a lot, that was over 5 months after shipping.

I was so fed up at that point I phoned amazon and cried down the phone as I had had enough, and they told me the claim would be refused as it was un reasonable to expect a full refund on a £30 book nearly 6 months after payment.

That and the fact that my sales dropped like a stone suddenly in autumn 2010 is why I list so very little on there anymore

Well I've seen two threads on the vents board here about being banned from Amazon for returning too much stuff and a thread on the eBay board from a buyer claiming INR from an Amazon drop-shipper being concerned about their own Amazon account because they viewed Amazon as strict on this kind of issue.

I think with Amazon (or any retailer really) everything is clearly through one account where as eBay is known for lots of sellers and I guess those who constantly make false claims thinks no one will piece it together.

If a buyer is making false claims Amazon as a retailer themselves have as much to lose as I, but eBay doesn't stand to lose much really. I've come across a few really pushing their luck with claims (persistent over a long time) and I would hope Amazon picks up on it quicker and be more effective at banning than eBay are.

The false claims are a small problem but do happen and volume sellers appear more of a target as they are less likely to put up a fight but of course at the same time they are more likely to talk to one another....

I think I must have just hit a rough patch and combined with no sales I just got well and truly fed up. It was one thing after another, I got a book returned as someone had thought it was a book they had as a child, and when it wasn't they no longer wanted it and I lost a lot ofpostage on that one . Amazon also allowed a buyer to return a text book after thanking me for sending it so quickly as it really helped with his exam.

I suppose one day I'll get a run like that on eBay and fall out of love with eBay as well, I can be mercurial like that. But with amazon it had got to the stage that I began to dread amazon emails where a buyer was sending me a message.
