Guidelines on when to use Recorded delivery?

I've always used recorded delivery when selling items as it puts my mind at ease and (so far) has prevented scammers claiming that the items were not received.
However with the recent price hike recorded delivery now adds a fair whack to the cost of posting. I feel that this is pricing my items out of the market even when the sale price is 10p.
I was wondering if any of you more experienced ebayers have any sort of guidline as to when you feel it is appropriate to use recorded delivery. I was thinking of setting myself a limit of £5ish. So i wouldn't use it for less than items that sell for less than £5.
Any advice gratefully received.

Agreed. 1st class (or 2nd if you really must) for anything up to £46, carrier or Special Delivery for anything over that.Exclamation and question marks - ONE exclamation mark or question mark is sufficient to exclaim or ask about something. More than one just makes you look/sound like a prat.
Should OF, would OF. Dear oh dear. You really should have, or should've listened at school when that nice English teacher was explaining how words get abbreviated.0 -
I'm the same I don't use recorded or any form of enhanced service on items below £46.
However when I hit £46 I would use special delivery or maybe a courier (I do reluctantly use Collect plus for some of my larger unwieldy items)
OP, is there a mistype in your post or do you really sell things at 10p?

For Ebay items, recorded delivery is, in my opinion, always a waste of money. I've always had problems receiving recorded delivery and it isn't any kind of guaranteed service.
If you're sending 10p items by recorded delivery, then the recorded delivery element of the postage are most likely the reason you are only getting 10p..0 -

Recorded delivery reduces the chance of your buyer receiving the item at first delivery opportunity, thus reducing customer satisfaction. You get almost as much safety just by getting a proof of posting.
For more valuable orders, maybe split the order where possible, or use a courier company.

I did say over ABOUT £50 and ALMOST as safe,
I stand by my post. Recorded delivery is generally bad value.
Beyond £46 it gets to be better value, but I still wouldnt advocate using it.

Recorded though makes no difference to anything being lost if it is over £46.
If you are using it just for the tracking, and not for insurance then it is worse than useless as in some areas recorded is never signed for.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. From your posts I think we agree that recorded delivery is not a useful postal service for Ebay items.
Given the changes in the service I think Royal Mail should only be offering it as a service on letters and not large letters or packets. For anything other than letters it isn't fit for purpose..0
