I can definately recommend the Wholesale fruit market on Sundays (as posted above)
We went this weekend and spent £50 on meat alone
A whole leg of pork (not a joint, a whole leg) for £10, 3 large joints of topside beef for £20, half a carrier bag of stewing beef for £10 and 2 large gammon joints for £10. That will see the 2 of us through at least 3 months worth of meals.
The meat from the van we buy from (right at the back, near the fruit & veg stalls - I wouldn't touch meat from the other vans!) is some of the best meat we've ever tasted. The fruit & veg stalls have dwindled but still good value for money. 2lbs of onions for £1 & 3lbs of carrotts for £1 is all I can remember at the moment.
Not as good (by a long shot) as the Bullring markets in Birmingham but still excellent value for money.

And a VERY surprise miracle in March 2017!0 -
What time does the fruit market fully open? Also, what's the best option for parking - I seem to remember (not been for over 20 years!) the parking being a bit of a swine.
Cheers,

Hi, sorry to bring this hold thread up but does anyone know where you can buy cheap fruit and veg nowadays.
I've seen this one
Wholesale Fruit Centre
Albert Cres, Bristol, BS2 0YQ
0117 977 3674
Is this still good?
Also the Eastville one has been mentioned, lathough that's a little far.
I've also googled and something called east street fruit market is coming up, any experiences of any of these or any ideas of where to go?
I live in Clifton and don't have a car so will have to walk or use public transport0 -
eastville market is awful now :-( just a handful of stalls, but last time i went the F&V stall was there. Its a trek from Clifton though, definitely 2 buses each way.
There's a farmers market in westbury village once a month, in the health centre car park. Not sure which saturday's its on but its always advertised locally in the run up.
What about the farmers market on whiteladies road (by the auction house), i never seem to be anywhere near when its running but might be worth a look?
Otherwise, the fruit market would be your best bet but again, public transport from clifton would be a bit of a pig, and i cant think of any buses that go directly past there
I would be interested to find out a bit more about east street market. they have a facebook page which was last updated in July- but it does say that they deliver :-)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. TBH I think your best bet might be getting the train from Clifton Down to Lawrence Hill, there's an Aldi or Lidl right next to the station ... get whatever they've got on offer!Signature removed for peace of mind0

thanks!
i had a look on google maps and the east street market doesnt look too far, only a bit further than asda which is very easily walkable (although coming back the other night in the rain and dark up hill wasn't nice) but doable!
i'll definitely checkout the whiteladies one that seems the most conveient, thanks0
