I cook mine for about 7 minutes and the yoke is a little gooey. Possibly 5 or 6 mins would be your best bet.

If I'm boiling eggs for sandwiches, then I boil them for 8 or 9 mins.

I always bring the water to the boil, then add the egg(s) and boil for 5 minutes. Always come our with firm whites, and lovely runny yolk!!!!

Mine seem to come out nice and soft (yummy). What I do is put enough water to cover in a pan. The water is as hot as the water from the tap gets. The egg (medium) goes in straight away and then I give it 4 minutes (I don't time it from when it comes to a simmer I time it from when the egg goes in).

I find that if I put the egg in boiling water they crack...

I've had my porridge but a boiled egg sounds lovely...;)

I coddle mine :) That is, I put them in a pan of cold water and bring to the boil. Then, I turn the heat off and put a lid on. I leave them for 8 mins for hard-boiled but slightly squidgy in the middle (good for egg sandwiches) or 6 mins for softer in the middle. After their time in the pan is up you plunge them into cold water to stop them cooking further.

The length of time depends on the age of the eggs too - the fresher, the longer. And, no doubt, the size too.

If we are having eggs for breakkie we always buy them fresh (medium ones) and use Delias 2nd method which always produces perfect 'dippy' eggs. If ever I crack the top off and the white is still a little bit underdone I just pop the top back on and leave it for 2 minutes, the heat in the egg will soon set it.

Make sure you're not storing the eggs in the fridge, because that can affect your boiling times quite a bit and make it harder to judge.
