  • Agree on the "cost to change" point. Selling a car privately is a hassle and something I'd personally try to avoid. Too many timewasters and tyre kickers did my head in.

    Also, just out of interest, where have you got quotes on your current car's value? I've often found that so many people look at "the book price" and automatically assume that their car is worth "book price". Remember that even the smallest chip, scratch, above average mileage would chip away at that value.

    quick search on autotrader shows 2008 1.6 merivas with around the same mileage between £4-5k although these are traders who mostly provide warranty/guarantee
    so depending on spec, condition, service history you shold get more than £4k just a case of how long you can wait
  • looking at the parker and others price guides used, part ex value on that mileage car depending on engine deisel petrol service history etc is around £3095-3800 part exchange value and good condition private sale around £3500-£4250 again trim level and engine varies the value.
