We want to trade in our car for an automatic as I just passed my test and can only drive an automatic and we currently have a manual. I looked online for some quotes on what our car's trade in value should be but we've been offered £700 less than these quotes and the guy said that we'd never find anywhere that would offer us those prices.
( we've been offered £3600 for 2008 Vaxhall meriva 1.6 41000 miles )
How/ where do we get a good / fair trade in price ?
Thanks in advance

To get a good price try a private sale0

You really have to look at the whole deal, the price to change, before you make your mind up. To this day, a throwback to old HP rules, a trader in my area offers £1000 minimum trade-in. Push a scrapper through the gates and you get a grand off. However every single one of his stock is at least £1000 more than anywhere else.0

how would you sell a car privately ? where would you advertise it ?
thanks0 -
www.autotrader.co.uk
www.gumtree.com/
Your car is only worth what someone will pay for it. Online quotes for trade value are just estimates, they are not set in stone. Go to the Autotrader site and see what price people are selling your make and model of car. That is a realistic starting point for you.0 -
traders will always offer you less as they will want to make a profit from the trade in car
where did you get the prices from?
when my gf changed her the car the trader offered us £800 I told him no chance then he admitted he would have put the car back up for sale for £1500 so I put it on ebay and got £1700 for it!
if you can afford to purchase your new car without the trade in you will be better off selling privately just check on autotrader to see what similar models, specs and milage are going for and price accordingly0 -

Local paper, ebay, gumtree, notice at work, friends
But thats OK providing you accept the hassle (insuring two cars for a few days, time spend dealing with potential buyers who may also want to get it for a very low price, test drives, possibility of buyer coming back with gripes, cost of advertising, cleaning it.....
Yes that does seem low if its in good condition. Is it?
Have you tried any other dealer? It may be that the dealer you asked does not really want it unless its very cheap or thinks you looked like someone who might take the first price you were offered.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. 2008 models on autotrader for less than you have been offered as a trade in.
And these are dealers who offer some form of warranty.
How much more than £3600 were you hoping to get? For the sake of a couple of hundred £ let the dealer have it.
If you want more than say £4000, Then you really have to sell it. Why would i phone you and enquire about your car at £4000+ when a dealer is offering one the same for for a few hundred less and i know i have some comeback if its a dud one.
Lots advertised for upto £5000, But i checked ebay and not one showing as sold.
I think supply and demand. = Too much supply and lack of demand for these.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
