For the record;

this is quarter cut rather than crown cut. hard to tell the difference with that kitchen !!
For the record the link is to steamed apple veneer and not a raw veneer...........Just thought I would clarify that but you knew that as you've worked with woods most of your life.
TBH no one can tell what "veneer effect" the OP is asking about from the pix. Everyone is guessing .;)
Ive been a Joiner for 25yrs and work with alsorts of timbers and I don't know which one it is without closer pix of grain and true pix of the colour.0 -
This is for sure a very basic MFI kitchen (back when MFI was.....well.....catering to the lower end of the market). Will take some close ups tomorrow0

Agreed, back when their kitchen finishes look nothing like the real timbers they were supposed to look like.:D

Its still nothing like the grain on apple though is it? I just get the hump at times when you read these forums and people are seeking advice, only to get bombarded by a load of nonsense from people who dont know what they are talking about. If I offer advice I tend to just stick to subjects I have a genuine experience in. Some of the 'what tools' threads are absolute crackers if you are logged on for a bit of a smile, but its not exactly helping the poor soul who asked the original question.0 -
/poor soul puts hand up....
Here are some more accurate pics - it definitely has the orange hue in the pics. Pic 2 shows the strips I would like to replace, hence the original post....

Beech for sure.
Just take a piece with you when you go to buy whatever you're after. It doesn't matter what it's called so long as it looks similar!0
