Identifying wood veneer

Hi,

Anyone care to speculate on what the following wood effect would be called? In natural light it's a little bit orange - probably somewhere between the two pics. It's an MFI kitchen from about 7 or 8 years ago....

It's Beech. I'll put money on it.

As Phill said it appears to be Beech, hard to tell 100% without seeing close up of the grain markings.

If your looking for something similar you could try cherry, similar colour but would have different graining.
  • Possibly Apple.

no offence but its got more in common with the surface of the moon than apple veneer. Add to that the fact Im not aware of any basic mass produced kitchen units being made from apple and we have a pretty good pointer. As the other posters have said is more than likely beech.

I forever wonder reading some of the advice on these forums why some people delight in giving advice on stuff they know very little about. Wouldnt it be more helpful to stick with what you know, so it genuinely helps?

^ No offence but you are aware this is a wood effect and not a real veneer, as the op stated, which is a pretty good pointer that this could be a kitchen door makers version of Apple, which is also very similar to my kitchen doors which are described as Apple. But what do I know?.
  • It looks a little too orange to be Beech.

Given it's an artificial finish, "Apple" is quite plausible.

It looks darker than what is normally called beech?

If you need to match it then you could try Magnets.

We bought an 8 year old house last year. The utility had pale beech finish floor units only and we wanted eye level cupboards too.

We removed one door and took it to various showrooms. We found a very close match in colour and style at Magnets Trade Centre in Chichester at reasonable prices.

Unless you look closely you would think the units were all the same.

Despite the rather unnecessary stick you got (doncha love MSE? :D) Apple is probably a better bet than Beech.

    IMHO anyway.

Thanks for all the replies - actually I googled "apple wood kitchen" and got a really close match to the colour but not the grain. Will try to get a closer pic of the veneer in daylight and post it - as beech also looks close.

Anyone know a company who makes replacement veneers to replace worn out panels? Loads show up in google of course but someone here may have personal experience....

Ha ha of course its not a real veneer, just the same as its not apple. Have you seen the grain in apple wood? As I mentioned its a basic mass produced kitchen. Just for the record I own a business that manufactures bespoke timber products and have been involved with woods for most of my life, but hey ho what would I know, carry on giving rubbish advice.

    For the record;

this is quarter cut rather than crown cut. hard to tell the difference with that kitchen !!
