I'm with albert on insurance, especially breakdown cover.

Look back on how many times you have claimed, if ever, and tot up the premiums paid over say five years. Is it really good value? or is it akin to DSG appliance cover. They profit from generating a fear culture.
I realise that modern appliances are made with reliability low on the scale of things, but even if you are with BG and worried about an old boiler, they will still try topush you into a boiler replacement if anything goes really wrong, I bet. Which AFAIK is not covered anyway.

As to safety checks pay for one seperately for peace of mind, if it makes you happy. I look at the colour of the flame.

So as i now have no money because ive forked out nearly £300 in boiler repairs in the last month and my savings are very low how do i pay if it breaks down again ?

For the sake of £40 i think its worth the payment to have peace of mind, it also covers drainage and pluming and other items

I just paid for heateam insurance and yearly service for our baxi condensing combi boiler. Cost £189

It`s just as important as running the car and costs less than a car service. Money well spent

yes I know: I could put the cash away each year but the boiler in my last house started breaking down three days after the guarantee period. It was a large combi boiler and required lots of repairs so imo it is insurance money well spent as far as I am concerned

The £150 includes at least one part and labour. There are only so many parts that can go wrong...

There are quite a few parts in the central heating system ive had 2 parts replaced in the last few weeks cost £270 , the price of BG is £156 a time , so at £312 i would have been out of pocket doing as you suggest

I'd double check the terms of the swindon policy, because £40 sounds far too cheap to me. The terms require a service in the last 12 months, which adds to the cost

The t+c's are quite simple ive had a look , yes they do state it needs to be inspected or serviced every year, its been inspected when i had the a new part fitted last week and 2 weeks before that when the other part went, i really cant afford anymore as im broke so would rather risk £44.25 which i can afford and be covered for a year and have no worries of how im going to keep my kids warm

No it wasnt BG it was a local man i use all the time, the fan was making a right racket and the bearings had gone so that needed replacing cost £150, then last week it wouldnt fire up, had to relplace one of the circuit board's (PCB ??) was needed £120, i did open the old one up and a resistor had burnt out, definately not been ripped off as i was charged at cost + fitting for the parts, i checked the parts cost with the supplier

Well the boiler broke down again, the gas valve went this time, chap arrived next day and ordered the part, he then came back a few days later to fit it, was bank holiday so a bit of a delay.

They just asked if i had had my boiler serviced, didnt ask for proof or anything.

So all in all a bargain for £44 for all that cover and way cheaper than anything else
