Hi Deanos...Swinton do a Home Emergency insurance.
£50 a year...extract from t and c..."What is covered, Central Heating and boiler failure"." plumbing problems related to leaking pipes, blocked drains or leaking radiators". You would need to compare.
Got mine thru a broker.0 -
There are several threads on this - I think you will find that with one exception* only BG have their own dedicated fitters - all the rest just contact a local plumber.
* I think its Powergen - but it only covers a small part of UK currently.
Nobody has come up with a decent alternative to BG: I wish they would.0 -
Just rang up Swinton and they will do it for £44.25 (25% discount) seems a bargain, £750 per incident is covered

Now reading the terms and conditions of the Swinton Policy. "organize to pay up to £750 inc. vat, for call out, labour, parts and materials to carry out an emergency repair, or if at a similar expense a permanent repair".
Guaranteed for 3 months and six months respectively.
Perhaps BG covers non-emergency work !!0 -
deanos: Take a look at Martin's article on finding cover..

.....am not impressed with the 24hr response time with Swinton. Christ, you need help straightaway, even if only by telephone advice, which tap to turn or which switch to knock off.
Householders would do best to go to evening classes, learn the basics.
Also noticed that Swinton needs a boiler to have been serviced within the last 12 months and to be no older than 15 years.0 -
Bear in mind that you are supposed to have an annual safety check of all gas appliances - mandatory for rented premises - and that costs a lot - £50?0

Insurance is based on risk and likely payout, and their is profit and tax built-in to your premium.
If you pay a low amount of insurance for this type of thing, this tells you that either the risk is low, or the clauses in the contract mean the payout is going to be low.
Unless you are incredibly unlucky, such insurance and all extended warranties are rarely value for money, and not moneysaving.
Thanks but ive just done that and had to shell out £270 on 2 new parts as its broke down twice recently , if it packs up again im knackered and cant afford it , having a 7 week and 4yr old i cant be without heating the last couple of weeks have been aweful
the bg one off payment is around £150 each time0 -

Thanks i went into Swinton today and it says it has to be "inspected or serviced" in the last 12 months, when i had the parts fitted recently they inspected it and said it was fine, so i took out the policy this morning0
