    Have you considered budgeting better?

That has nothing to do with what i asked but thanks . I do budget but you are in no position to dare tell me what has gone on with my life in the last few months. thanks

But it is relevant to a situation where somebody is struggling to keep a car on the road.

I didn't tell you. I made no reference to other parts of your life. Life can be unkind. Cars are leeches on finances. Budgeting for the expected, the unexpected and the downright unpleasant. All will happen sooner or later.

I know this but if for the time being I can just keep the car running and the end of the month I will be better off to do brakes but the MOT would have picked up dangerous brakes I can keep driving until the end of the month I am happy. That is what I asked not that I should leave it forever!!!!!

I had unexpected bills and yes I do budget just the unexpected happens and things happened this year. I know all about life and stuff thank you!

Like I said I liked most advice on here and it has helped but yours is not for me but thank you. Take care now
  • If it passed an MOT I know I'd be happy with it. As for £540 for brakes and tyres it sounds a bit steep to me.
  • this friends does not happen to be a new boy friend does he, if he is then hes ripping you off.

well he asked me to go for a drink a few weeks back when I took the car in for him to look at but I am with someone else and pregnant so I told him so and then he gave me the estimate!! but he no longer puts xx in his texts and seems a bit off. Think I will give him a miss and go somewhere else. Men and cars have never been my strong point.

Have you asked the MOT tester all these questions, they are qualified mechanics and he's just had a very good look at your car? I always quiz them after I've had my MOT and have always found them really helpful.

    And there we have it.

He asked you out, got told no and felt rejected. Now he feels a bit bitter and if he can't have a date with you he'll have it with your finances instead. Typical fitter / mechie attitude.

I told you it was a bit steep didn't I. You're being taken for a ride because you said no to his advances and he felt belittled / stupid.

Bottom line? Don't be so gullable. Go elsewhere. You don't owe this bloke anything and if he's that immature then you shouldn't trust him as a mechanic especially when working on crucial things like your brakes.

to be fair we dont know what the car is so £540 maybe reasonable.
tyres for my car are a minimun of £180 a corner and the van tyres are £80 (6 tyres on the van) a corner and thats not even including the cost of brakes van just set me back over £200 for just the fronts
if you have doubts then dont go
No offence but how do you know the brakes need doing as at the mot they would have been checked for thickness and an advisory given if needed
I take it as it passed the mot they changed two tyres so they would have told you about the brakes then
if you still dont feel confident about the brakes take the car to your local brake place and get them to check them over
