Thornit should help with the ears- it can be used on the coat but it will stain white fur (and fabrics)

Alternatively you might want to try some of the cedarwood/rosemary based sprays for the coat

Frontline kills ticks

Fred had an allergic reaction to Frontline, all my cats had fleas after using Frontline so switched to Advantage quite a while ago.

unfortunately you can't prevent them I don't think (as much as i'd love to).

I know when I treated my cocker with frontline and he got one a few weeks after it just kinda dropped out dead, didn't even realise he had it until I saw it on the floor
