Another Argos problem!

I think your best bet is to forget about getting the chairs from Argos and get a refund. (after all, if they can't get the chairs, what else can they do?)
Then write to their customer services department, stating that you took a day off work so that you could accept the delivery, and as you were only informed about the problem on the Friday before the planned delivery, it was too late to cancel your day off.
Also mention about the time that you were required to spend on the telephone.
You aren't going to get your chairs, but you may get some compensation to cover the cost of the calls and your day off work.0 -

Gobsmacked at your flippancy.
All I asked for was some advice, but yet again I get attacked.
And the advice is take the refund and shop elsewhere. They are not going to tool up in the factory to make 4 chairs just for you. If they dont have any more left then they cannot possibly give you any.
what is so difficult about that for you to understand here? We are not attacking you just telling you how it is."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
There is one other thing that you could do if you write to the head office.
See if they will tell you the name of the manufacturer of the chairs, then contact them directly.
Even if they have stopped making that particular model of chair, it's possible that they may still have a few in a stockroom somewhere, or they might be able to give you details of another of their stockists who may have some.0 -

I'd follow this advice if I was you, unfortunately you will get no sympathy here.
I'd be very angry if I was you, Argos seem to do this a lot, amazing how they get away with it.

The phrase 'fool me once, shame on you...' comes to mind when the thread title is 'Another Argos Problem...'
Stocking discrepancies happen for many reasons, and when you have as much range and depth of stock as Argos it is to be expected, even with their fairly modern stock management procedures.
£8.95 delivery seems fairly reasonable to me. Chairs aren't an easy shape and they take up a fair amount of space. In terms of overall expense it costs about £10.00 just to turn the ignition on and leave the distribution centre. When you take into account employment costs, fuel, tax, insurance (more insurance and then some more insurance), servicing, capital expenditure etc.) it costs at least £4.00 for every mile travelled. So bear this in mind when you consider delivery costs.
As for your consumer rights...it would seem that they haven't got the stock and you aren't happy with an alternative so their only option is a refund which I understand they have offered you? What more could they possibly do to resolve this?
As for their apparently poor customer service, I don't doubt you for a second. The problem is that poor customer service is not in itself against the law. Your only recourse is to use your feet and shop elsewhere. If you find yourself in a months time writing a thread with the title 'Another, Another Argos Problem', then who can really be at fault?0 -
Thank you Zandoni and shaun from africa i don't expect to get the chairs, I'm not that daft, but I'm annoyed about the bad service & wanted to know what to do next. You've been very helpful.0

I can completely understand why you are annoyed about the service but as I've said before, all you can do is accept the refund and move on. Don't dwell on it or it will just get at you more and more, I've found myself in the same situation before.0 -
The title "another Argos problem" was referring to the problems other posters have had, as there seems to be a lot of problems posted on here. I've never ordered from Argos before, and never will again.0

Crikey OP I don't know how old you are but I can tell I have been there and done that but at the end of the day life is too short.
Now I probably have just crept into the grumpy old men category and generally moan about most things but you'll give yourself a heart attack if you let 4 chairs from Argos turn you apoplectic too often.
I picked a fight with London Transport over a £20 penalty fare about 20 years ago and fought them tooth and nail for months, because it was the "principal of the thing", I still never got my money back and to this day I still think they were wrong but I did learn a thing or two, pick your battles wisely.0 -
If we don't fight for what we believe then things will not improve. We may not win every battle but it will remind them that improvements may be needed.I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0
