Double or nothing- Challenge!!!

Options
Right, I have decided to set myself a small challenge and would love it if people would join me so we can all motivate each other. My plan is to start with 1 pound and double my money each week, by buying something and then selling it on again at a profit. I will obviously be having to adapt the items, or buy multiple items etc as time goes on. BUT, in theory, if I can double my money every week, I would have made a million pounds within 20 weeks. Now, I appreciate that the making of a million in less than half a year is not necessarily feasible, but I hope that, with some creative thinking, I can get some way towards it, albeit in a longer timescale, especially once larger amounts are involved. In theory the first few weeks shouldn't be so tough.

This morning, I bought 2 plates and a candlestick from a charity shop for the sum total of 1 pound. I will let you know how much I make from selling them on.

Who's with me?????

Ok, so I have now adapted my 1 pound purchase and it's on sale on e-bay. Lets hope I make some money on it or I'll have to reinvest another pound and start again. Here's the link, let me know if you think I could make my money back!
  • Nice idea, I've few of these on the forum:)
I agree with Lincolnshire_Poacher that your postage is quite high and might put buyers off. Perhaps you can add pick-up only too? Another thing is making your photos look nicer - the cake stand is nice quality, but it suffers from the fan you can see in the background and this not
correspond to the "impress your guests" part of the posting:)
Another tricky one will be to double your money:), once they are 200- 300, but I'll follow the thread:D
...reality is a point of view...

I think a week is too short of a time, maybe a month of 2-3 weeks minimum to help sell bits

Advertising yourself on here is a very bad idea, annoy someone here or have some daft terms on your auction and you will end up in all sorts of problems. I got stalked once and someone found one of my selling IDs and it caused me a lot of grief

I'd also check your postage , it seems high and that will end up costing you your selling stars, why for instance are you using recorded on a £2 item?. Lastly, you have paid extra for the BIN price, was it worth it when anyone bidding will knock out the BIN price anyway and this is a short duration listing.

As a critique of the auction- I would be extremely careful to note that this is a Blue Peter type arrangement and that you have just tsood, or maybe glued 3 random items together- best to make it clear as otherwise you may end up refunding.

I think you would have achieved a better return by selling the items singly (or even the 2 plates as one item) rather than as a homemade single item. It may well be the camera angle, but the candlestick doesn't seem centred on the plate. It also looks as if the top plate is balanced on the candlestick.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

I was rather hoping that they were glued or permanently fixed together somehow rather than just a balancing act otherwise nothing at all can be put on the top one as it will just over balance.

Thanks everyone so far for your input. I have revised P+P charges (actually using the royal mail price calculator this time). The items are very firmly together, I can assure you!!:p With an epoxy resin style glue specifically for glass and ceramics. That thing is seriously not coming apart without the aid of a nuclear device!!

Now to see if anyone bites. Thanks for the info re not putting my e-bay links up here, I shall edit accordingly.
