Just wondered if anyone had had any experience of "negotiating" with Avantigas over monthly payments. We moved into our rented accomodation in January and it had about 30% of gas in. At the end of May, when I rang to top up, it was down to 10% reading.
Avantigas are claiming that until we have been in the property a year, they cannot gauge how much we are using so have been forced into paying £107 a month for gas. We had a top up at the end of May to just over 60% and even now, it's sitting at about 50% so not high usage so far. The amount we ordered has been cleared by the direct debits and I want to negotiate with them on the monthly payment as it's so high. We used to pay £110 for both gas and electricity in our last house, so this is coming as quite a shock to us.
They have refused point blank to change the direct debit saying they are within their rights to set the amount. Is this right? Should I contact Ofgem?
I am not wanting to stop monthly payments, but do want to stop being ripped off!
