I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

    Hello to all reading this.

My mother has just been granted a Council bungalow for herself (age 71) and her disabled son (age 47) wheelchair bound. She owns her own house outright so once we have got them moved in and sorted we will be putting the house on the market.

It may sell for around the 120,000 mark but we were wondering if there is a certain way of investing the money so not to let any greedy government body get hold of any.

We dont want to do anything illegal but that house is what her and now deceased husband earnt through out all their lives and we want her to keep it to do as what she pleases.

She gets £190 a week benefit while living in this bungalow and may be entitled to rent rebate, council tax rebate etc (not got that far yet, only just signed for bungalow yesterday).

Will such a large sum eventually going into her bank account affect any benefits etc etc??

Will it be better off put in a third party bank account (e.g. daughter etc)

We want to do the right thing but also the best thing for her and her son as they deserve it and she is still having to cope with a 47 year old man in a wheelchair on her own while she is elderly herself. She does have carers coming into the house 3 times a day but i believe she is entitled to keep the money she makes and not have to answer to different offices and agencies regarding her savings.

Any advice on going the best route would be appreciated

    Thanks

OP - The vast majority can see what you were suggesting, which is why you got the responses you did from so many people. If you try and cheat the system you are more likely to get caught these days.

If there was a loopwhole the millions upon millions of people would be using it to try and hold onto their houses when it comes to nursing fees. The whole area has been tightened up. People on here were stating the obvious to you. You just didn't like the response!

yes, jebus197, why don't you do that.

Give yourself 3 points for fooling many of us with this mother/disabled brother/how-can-we-scam-some-benefits sob.

4 points buys you a packet of gummy bears, so you are almost there!

Last post from me on this thread, however insulting or wrong your response might be.

Threatening to come back as a troll under a different user name and quickly changing your story half way through shows a complete lack of good faith, honesty and integrity that justly deserves all the flack you got for wanting to " legally " cheat the benefit system.

Hope you'll at least try for some consistency next time :rotfl:

Glad to see you are the carer for both your parents, in this one:

Wonder what happened to the disabled, wheelchair bound 47 year old

Seriously though, some people do come on here looking for advice because they have a genuine problem. Its not helpful when to**ers like you take the p*ss!

Yes, and thanked a whole load for providing useful information for those with genuine problems.

How many times have you been thanked?

    Zero.

You contribute as much here as you seem to be in real world.

If you do come back under a different name, why don't you try putting something in and treating other people as you'd like to be treated yourself?
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

Something is very wrong with this thread and the backdated thread.

OP - two good lessons in life for you - don't lie as you will get caught out and choose your arguements wisely!

Before I get shoot down in flames I haven't read all the thread.

But the argument about care of the elderly, or in this case the son has been and will continue for ages.

    A) It's all about should those that can afford it pay.

    B) Should those that can't afford get it for free.

If it was free to everyone, who would FUND it? Tax would yet again go up for everyone.

Two sides to every coin though, why should those who worked hard all their lives and saved, be punished later on.

The debate will continue as long as time.
Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz
