Dog in rented property question

Sorry you cant get a dog. It does make renting harder, some people give the rest of us a bad name when it comes to pets.
It doesn't sound like a good time to get one at the moment, but I hope the time comes when it is the right time.
Aw thank you so much. I really appreciate that.

Weird isn't it when we rented we had four teenagers, landlord never had a clause about them and I can assure you they can make far more mess than one dogObstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal.0

If you do get a dog later down the line please read LeanneL's thread about her little one that turned out to be puppy farmed and has had to be PTS.
Please get a dog from a reputable rescue or from a breeder you find through the breed club NOT an advert. Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Ha that is so true. I went in my 15 year old daughters bedroom last night - OMG, I couldn't even see the floor. I swear there's a small village of little people living under there.:p Glad the landlord lives 250 miles away.0 -

I read that a few days ago - its heartbreaking isn't it. What was with the "meet us at a pub", so dodgy.
I've been looking at a mixed breed (please don't shoot me down), and have been looking at www.timbermeed.co.uk If its ok could you have a look and tell me what you think. Obviously its not going to happen now but i can still research for when the time is right. Thank you.

Hi, just as an update to those who advised on this question.
I got a letter today from my landlord - special delivery so that wasn't a good start.
The first paragraph basically said "yes, you can have a dog, subject to the clauses already in the contract".
The second paragraph basically said "I want you out of my house by 16th November "(Section 21).
So there you go. I've got 2 viewings lined up for tomorrow for properties we've seen on rightmove.

I stand by what I said, a reputable rescue or a breeder you source through the breed club. Mixed breeds are just fashionable mongrels, often bred for profit not love of the breed which can mean puppy farming so be very careful. There are breed specific rescues have full bred dogs and crosses.
They claim affiliation with the Kennel Club and Dog Breeders Association so check that out thoroughly, exactly what checks are run by these organisations if any. Labs and Springers are both risky for certain health problems, a good breeder will run thorough veterinary tests on all the b1tches and studs, you should research both breeds carefully. Is that site for pet dogs or working dogs? Not the same: working dogs may need a lot more stimulation and exercise than a regular pet for example agility training.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

That is so harsh
He has given you notice for just ASKING if you can get a dog? I can't get my head around that at all.
I hope you find somewhere lovely really soon and can get your longed for canine pal
Good luck x You can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that

I'm a landlord who specifically put in the contract with my tenants that they were allowed pets as long as they paid for any damage they caused. My tenants currently have dogs, rabbits and chickens!
They do exist, it's just that it's always best to ask before renting a place whether it is acceptable to have pets and, if so, what sort of pets and on what terms.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

Exactly, yes he did. We have since spoken and he has in fact retracted the notice on the basis that I have agreed not to get a dog.
I'd already gone on rightmove though and have actually viewed 2 properties with dog friendly landlords so I think in the new year we will seriously start to look.
I was petrified that I'd have to move house in the next 8 weeks as I have a dissertation to hand in in November:eek:0
