Car insurance unknown car model

Hi, i brought my car (model Hunday Galloper) from Spain a few years ago. When i insured it this model did not appear in the list of the insurance company (direct Line) and we insured it as a Mitsubishi Shogun (same engine size, chasis etc))over the phone.
I now want to change insurer and wonder if I have another alternative.
Any ideas?

If you cannot find the model in the online options you will need to speak direct to the insurer (or use a broker).

Using a compromise as you have been doing could leave you uninsured in the event of any claim or them finding out!

Hi there. It really is a Mitsubishi Pajero rather than a Shogun.

I assume the make and model doesn't come up on the Registration Number database they normally use?
  • It comes up as Mitsubishi Shogun. I did the insurance over the Phone a few years ago and i chosed the Shogun as the closest model but it is probably more like a Pajero. I just went for a quote in go compare and my model is not there and will never be as they are not making the car any longer.

If it has been registered in the UK I can't see why they can't find it. What is on the V5?
  • I will take a look when I get back home.
  • Hi, sorry for the delay but I could not find the V5. It says Hyunday with no mention of the model.

Not every one will insure imports, so it's worth phoning to ensure you are covered.

Hyundai Galloper not hunday. Its actually a MK1 Pajero but built by Hyundai. Not 100% the same though they did make changes.

Have you declared it as an import? Lots of mainstream companies are not clued up on them.
    Try a specialist broker.

Just putting Shogun or Pajero in the quotes may cause you issues if you need to claim.

Have you tried a compare site and entered the reg number? Does it recognise the model there?

Also, check askmid.com - what does it show as make/model?

askmid.com will show the vehicle as whatever the insurance company have stated it be. The insurance company have been told by their customer that it is a Shogun so that's what they think it is.
