Perhaps the EU parliament should legislate that such an extension should be supplied?0 -
How about buying a universal charger? Anything you can remove the battery from ie. cameras and phones will charge on it, they usually come with a car charger aswell so if you're camping or something and have no access to mains you can still charge up from a cars cigarette lighter.£2012 in 2012 member #15: £651.55/£20120

Micro USB is meant to be the EU standard now for charging phones, however all the manufacture needs to do to meet this standard is offer an adapter. They can even charge extra for the adapter and still meet the standard.0

I thought the only thing that was not the same now was Apple ixx range. Certainly my phone (not an iPhone), camera and kindle, (and my work phone come to think of it) use mini usb, the only thing that uses something special are my iPod and iPad.0

It's getting better but there are still a lot of things that are proprietary.
Stuff I own that does not charge through mini USB, for example:
Kindle (At least it will charge through USB - you just need a special lead.)
Nokia phone (Bought last week)
Three Canon cameras - each has a different charger and none are compatible with the others. (This is, to a certain extent understandable in that the batteries are quite big and would probably take a long time to charge with USB.)There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
A friend bought lead similar to this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-10-in-1-USB-Multi-Sync-Charger-Adaptor-Cable-For-Mobile-Phones-/271029849862?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccessories_MobilePhoneChargers&hash=item3f1aa34f06 from poundland recently to replace an ipod lead. I noticed yesterday she had it plugged into a mains usb charger and had the ipod, her phone, and her mini speaker all connected to different leads and charging at the same time. I wouldn't of suggested trying this but it seemed to work.
Adaptors like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-USB-to-Micro-USB-Adapter-Data-Charger-Converter-7-/110734912306?pt=UK_Computing_USB_Cables&hash=item19c850ab32 may help or save buying a new car charger.0
