Battery chargers on holiday

Options
It's annoying to say the least. We have to pack
  • Plug-top USB charger a with lead for the Kindle(s)
  • Motorola phone charger which also doubles as a charger for the Creative MP3 player
  • Nikon DSLR battery charger - battery out of camera job
  • Ditto for wife's Lumix camera
Whatever happened to standardisation?

Also, what happened to the 'charging mat' that would enable you to charge anything (up to a certain current draw limit) that you placed on it and had the appropriate piece of circuitry embedded.

As so often, a brilliant idea that had been proven to work but came to nothing because governments are too scared to govern and would not make it mandatory in suitable equipment.

You could get away with only one lead for the camera battery chargers as the lead fits both charging stations. Plus if you have a USB plug you can use this with any USB lead that fits the equipment.

More of an issue I suspect, is charging more than a couple of things at once.

My Creative MP3 player charges from a USB

USB is *almost* standard - so, maybe, we're getting there.

Is the Government there to legislate on unimportant things such as chargers. They are not I suggest?

You are, of course, perfectly entitled to your opinion.

Provided, of course, that you fully understand that it is just an opinion.

So do you think Governments should be legislating on chargers?...in your opinion?

    Tyanks for the replies.

Forgot to mention in my OP, the Motorola phone charger will (obviously) charge the phone. The output plug is USB mini , which fits and charges the Creative Zen.

In their infinite wisdom Motorola have decided that their phones cannot be charged from USB with the appropriate mini plug. (Needs some signal on one of the pins IIRC). Good eh?

Of course the USB plug for the kindle is different so I can't use the Motorola charger and I'm reluctant to try to kludge this on a new-ish Kindle.

They are still around. You'd need the compatible receiver for your device.

...and the Government should make it illegal for pedestrians to walk on the right hand side of the pavement in this country.

Now, that's important! Imagine how many lives might be saved.
  • I take a 4-gang extension strip with me abroad because there never seems to be enough sockets in the bedroom to take all my electric gadgets ! Also it means I need just the one plug converter thingy.(I take 2 just in case...)
