this is an interesting thread. Has anyone got any info on Diplexing? If I can do this to send a sat feed through coax to my tv it would be great.

Not a recommendation of unit or supplier simply showing the type of equipment.
But personally I like Triax or Antiference.
  • Thanks.

I'd been previously told that coax isn't suitable for satalite feeds. If I dont get an aerial and only have a dish, is this still the best way to go or can I just use an adaptor to make use of the coax cable?

I dont really understand the question, sat feeds from a dish to the box are via (good quality) Coax. (or fibre in a very limited number commercial/communal systems)

If you explain your setup/requirements sure I/someone will advise.

Coax (coaxial) is cable that has a core, insulation round it, foil round it, a wire mesh around that, then a final skin of insulation.
This type of cable is use for all aerials and dishes, so your info is wrong, supermonkey.
What your source probably meant is that you had low quality coax connected to your aerial, and that it would be no good. You DO need good quality coax for a sat install. And preferably NO joins in it all the way from the dish into the back of the box as it weakens the signal greatly.
Generally high quality = thick copper core, copper mesh, plastic honeycomb insulation in between,
Low quality - aluminium (silver not orange colour) thin core, aluminium mesh, foam insulation.
If you're going to the bother of fitting cables, use shotgun, which is 2 cables together.
  • Thanks guys. The cable i have was installed by the builders and I have never used. It could well be poor quality. The other end is in my loft & there is enough length to take through the soffit and connect to a dish.

I have a real objection to wires which is why I don't want to fit a new sky cable.

If the builders have buried the wire in some kind of trunking, then it would be a simple matter to replace same if the quality is not good enough. If it's been buried in the plaster then your options are indeed limited.
