Well, I wondered how long it would last. Just got an email, big reductions in free allowance:

LOL. Oh dear. I just genuinely hope the owners haven't ploughed too much money into this 'venture'.
Edit: No longer free for any meaningful package:

I'm a bit confused by the offer page. If you want, say 100 texts etc, does that mean that it's £5 a month?
I know I'm probably being a bit dumb here
Just worked it out :L0 -
Mmmnn, I'm thinking Eranu, I don't know why.:DThat gum you like is coming back in style.0

Yes this is so (last bit added as a simple yes was apparently too short)I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -
The way I understand it is you still get 50 mins 50 texts 100mb free each month ...then if you want you can add a monthly bundle such as 100 mins and 100 texts 300mb for £5 but this does not roll over each month
So £5 a month would then give you 400mb 150 mins and 150 texts
I think :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:It's not just about the money0 -
So after you buy a pack does that mean no more adverts?Nobody is Perfect. I am Nobody, therefore I am Perfect.0

Doesn't this make Ovivo pointless for most people now? You need to spend £5 a month to get any usable minutes/data/texts and then you still have to put up with ads.
You might as well spend £3 more and go with Talkmobile and get double the minutes, 500 texts and 500MB.0 -

Plus £35 cash back from TCB. 6 months contract length so effectively a net £2/mth!0 -
Yes, on the new Ovivo deal there are no internet ads. It sounds like the ads weren't generating sufficient income.
The new Ovivo deal is looking similar to Giffgaff. Both have free calls to people on the same network, and both have the same prices for out-of-bundle minutes and calls. Both have incentives to recommend a friend.
The key differences are:
1/ With Ovivo you get a (modest but useful) free monthly allowance of calls and data.
With Giffgaff there is no free monthly allowance, but you can get payback if you spend enough time helping people on their forum.
Ovivo has telephone support whereas Giffgaff is web-based
2/Ovivo is on the Vodafone network and Giffgaff uses O2.
3/ There are differences in between the Goodybags/Packs. The Ovivo ones appear more evenly balanced between calls, texts and data
£5 Ovivo: 100 texts, 100 mins 300Mb Giffgaff: 60 mins 300 texts no data
£10 Ovivo: 250 texts 250 mins, 1Gb Giffgaff:250 minutes unlimited txts and unlimited data (but if you use "too much" data, they may suspend you).
The rates for non-goodybag calls and texts are the same for both, but data is different: Giffgaff costs 20p per day for data (up to 20Mb then 20p per Mb over 20Mb) whereas for Ovivo the data cost is 20p per Mb (after the free monthly allowance is consumed).
Which deal is better?
Assuming you don't have a strong preference for O2 versus Vodafone, Ovivo would work out cheaper for lighter users and Giffgaff for heavier users (but it will depend on your exact mixture of texts, mins and data).0
