At the risk of repeating myself.... from another of my earlier posts in this thread....

"The other laptop may be slow, but that's to a certain extent a function of its own HDD and what's on it. Place the HDD from the injured laptop in it, and it should run at the speed of the injured laptop (assuming them to have similar RAM memory specs and similar processors)
    "

Moving HDDs between laptops is merely a matter of unscrewing a securing screw, perhaps a cover plate and sliding drive in/out of the drive bay.

There's guides on how to do it all over YouTube and other areas of the WWW.

I don't think the OP knows what HDD stands for. Or a securing screw, a cover plate and a drive bay. Broom broom.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Unless things have changed, moving a hard drive from one machine to another causes untold problems due to hardware differences, unless the machines in question are identical specification.

...but in an 'emergency', you'd give it a try, wouldn't you? I would, if it was a real emergency. But since the OP seems to have managed without their data since 31-08-2012, 10:22 AM ......

Or the HDD caddy, as suggested by MacMan.

As mentioned before you must check the screen on that link is a direct replacement for yours, as I found at least 4 different screens in 2 sizes for RV515 laptops.

In an emergency, try connecting an external display - they can be had really cheap (or even free!).

Don't spend too much on it as you can get a refurbished RV515 with a 12-month warranty for £249, and other models for about £200 from the likes of Argos and Tesco on Ebay.

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SAMSUNG-RV515-AMD-FUSION-E450-4GB-DDR3-500GB-15-6-WIN-7-HDMI-RV515-A01-LAPTOP-/271046551745?pt=UK_Computing_Laptops_EH&hash=item3f1ba228c1

I'd consider recovering the data like others have suggested then selling it as spares or repair to use towards the cost of a new/refurbished one.
  • After reading quickly through this post, I am sure the op has went and claimed of house ins.
Why would she do otherwise given the advice here, you all went from connecting it to a tv, pulling hard drives in and out, buying another laptop, pulling screens out and buying replacements, a lot of confusion for an end user.
I think you all achieved one thing, you scared the hell out of her.
The only sound advice was to bring it to a local repair shop (found and reviewed through Google).
Oh and the price for a 15.6 led screen ,fitted with 12 months warranty £70,00.
    Well done guys

    Baloney!
    1. The request for help was desperately urgent, and the easiest way to get at the data quickly is to attach an external screen.
    2. There were various options put forward for getting it repaired, and one poster suggested that it might even be cost-effective to replace it if the repair was expensive.
    3. And another said that if another machine was acquired or available, then the data could be recovered by taking out the disk and reading it on another computer.

(BTW, your £70 inc VAT, fitted, with 12 months warranty does seem a very good price!)
