morning

gutted to say the least. on wednesday evening my 8 year old fell onto the screen of our laptop. it didn,t smash but we have no full screen only a huge mark towards the right hand side of the screen, just like a rainbow. computer turns on and a sound coming from it. Sadly cannot operate it as you cannot see a thing

HELP. what do i do as I desperately need to do some work on it. I cried to be honest, although we know it was a very big accident

Have you got a lead that can connect it to a telly?

If you have a modern telly they often have a socket for these.

You can just connect it to a monitor on a temporary basis.

Options you have would be determined by the connectors on the laptop and other devices you have access to.

VGA - connect to an external monitor or TV
HDMI - connect to TV/monitor with HDMI interface

Ultimately you're looking at a replacement screen. Typical price ± £80-£100. Post exact make/model of laptop for more details
How do I add a signature?

Screens are remarkably easy to change on most laptops. A few screws and a connector on most of them.

As Figment said, make and model would be most helpful :)

All my tellys for the last 15 years have had a VGA input socket, have only used the one on my flat screens though never the one om my old CRT.

    thanks guys.

    it is a samsung laptop.

screen isn,t cracked just a blur of a rainbow. when my hubby comes back i will ask him to dig out the cables from our flat screen tv and operate the computer from there.

You need to give the model no. in order to get proper advice/prices-there are hundreds of Samsung laptop models.
It won't be worth claiming on your household insurance, even if accidental damage is covered.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
