No buying unnecessary toiletries in September

I'd like some advice from you ladies! My mum turns 50 next month and as part of her present, I'd like to get her something nice toiletry-related. Feel Unique have 30% off Elemis today only and I thought this set looked nice:
http://www.feelunique.com/p/Elemis-Mini-Intro-to-Elemis-Kit
She hasn't tried Elemis before and has normal-dry skin. Has anyone tried any of these products? She's not really a spa person so I thought she'd prefer products to use at home.Thank you maddiemay, I think I'll get her it as it's great value and I've heard such good things on this thread about Elemis. It doesn't say stuff like "anti-aging" or "wrinkles" which is the last think she'll want! (She's a bit in denial about turning 50!) I've resisted the temptation to add a second one to the basket for myself!
Does anyone have any non-toiletry suggestions for what to get her? She doesn't have many hobbies as such as she has 3 sons at home to look after (I'm at university in Scotland, whereas they're in NI) and she has a tonne of clothing already. I thought about a voucher for a fancy hair salon but she'd need to go for a patch test for a colour so it wouldn't be very convenient.
Hi Skyllo am just catching up with the thread. The kit you have posted link about looks lovely. I have used the Melting Cleansing Gel and Day Moisturiser out of that kit and didn't like the former but enjoyed using the latter although my HG like Kiplingmonkey is the PCMC. The only reason I didn't like the cleanser was that it made my combination skin more oily than usual but if your mum has normal/dry skin she should be fine with it.
I also think a manicure is a nice idea for another treat for your mum or maybe treat her to have her eyebrows waxed/tinted.kiplingmonkey wrote: »I am a bit younger than your Mum (46) and have 2 DDs (10 & 7) who I hope will be as thoughtful as you when they are older. I have tried the melting cleansing gel - I liked it but I know some of the forum-ites have an adverse reaction to it. The skin buff is lovely - I had an Elemis facial this year and the therapist used this on me. It is on my list of things to buy when I need more exfoliator. I have also used the daycream and it is nice (altho my HG is the Pro Collagen Marine Cream and the PC Oxyygenating Night Cream but these will not be good if you want to avoid anything about aging and wrinkles). This is a nice set too :

but then I am a total sucker for any set that comes with a bag...
Off topic but have bought the Kipling bag on the Q...I did resist Elemis and LG in my defense. Going to the naughty step now...
Oh lovely bag kiplingmonkey. Thanks to you and Skyllo for posting about this site as it's reminded me of the annual release of the cancer care Elemis kit which I'll try to get as it's a great saving on the pot of PCMC alone and I also love the Neck and Bust cream.
I have an Elemis UU to declare : Tube of Gentle rose Exfoliator. I love this and had already replaced this one pre-holiday because I didn't want to be carrying two tubes with me ie one that was spluttering and a new one. This is now my HG exfoliator.
Talking of bags I've come online this am to sort out returning a Guess handbag that MrM bought me onboard our cruise. As soon as we got home the handles started to split. There's a kind of rubberised beading on the inside of the handles which has started to peel away. The Company have offered me a full refund on return of the bag but say due to Customs Law they can't replace it. Shame as it's a lovely bag however when I bought it Emma commented that one of her friends on holiday had bought the same bag the year before. When mine became faulty she mentioned it to her friend who said that the same thing happened to hers but about a year after owning it. So not only is it old stock but maybe faulty stock as well - maybe this is why they're not replacing it.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

I wish this was true of mine! I am buying replacement bottles every 2 weeks because Emma washes her hair daily. My second UU for September is a bottle of V05 Give Me Moisture shampoo and again it's the bottle that was spluttering before we went away but I bought a fresh one to take with us rather than packing two.Just realised I had a no spend August :A :jdidn't have many outs or UUs but I have lots of things which are still spluttering away. I have 3 shower gels open in the bathroom and they will all be finished fairly soon but like to vary what I use.
I did get a Boots No7 voucher today when I topped up my phone. They have changed it to 2 parts, 1 is for £5 off skincare, the other is £3 off accessories. I am not planning on using it though :A
HTH
Well done on the no spend. I'm like you in that I keep a variety of shower gels on the go. This week I've been using my Sephora coconut range. Next week I think I'll try and UU the TBS Earth Lovers Fragrance Free one which is becoming a LHJ as it's so horrible.
What are the accessories on the voucher?I had some much-needed retail therapy today and Liz Earle happened. So 2 INs for me!
Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Rose and Lavender: this seems really nice, no eucalyptus in this one and £2 goes to the Prince's Trust.
Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic spritzer. My Caudalie Beauty Elixer is spluttering and I fancied something a bit cheaper.
I don't think I'll need to buy cleansers for about a year! I've found myself spending a bit more on skincare as it seems to get much better results. I used to buy cheap stuff from Boots and not like it so it was a waste when I didn't finish it. At least I know I'll use up the ones I have now.
I'd be interested in seeing what you think of the new C&P. I am wary of using anything with rose in it though as if the ingredient is "rose extract" it makes my skin itch badly. Where did you buy from? There's quite a good offer on her site this month re: the essentials kit. I am getting low on IBST and have no Skin Repair moisturiser in at the mo which I use as night cream (though I am using an Elemis night cream at the minute and it's got loads left in it) but know that I want the Elemis Cancer care kit. Maybe I'll wait til the end of the month and get the LE one and then wait until the end of October for the Elemis one.
IBST is my HG toner. Previously have tried to find one that's cheaper but have given up. The only other one that I really like is the Elemis one but this is more expensive so am sticking with LE. I agree with you that it's worth spending that little bit more on a product that works for you rather than "saving" money by buying a cheaper version then not being satisfied with it.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I have one of those corn callous removers as well which is brilliant for removing hard skin. Just a pity that I'm a bit lazy with my feet and rarely use it. Now you've reminded me about it I'll try and be more diligent with my feet.I wonder if I'm making progress - went to the supermarket yesterday then had some time to pass before meeting someone so walked round a big shopping centre, through Boost and Poundland and bought NOTHING!!! :A
Yes, this sounds like progress to me. I had a moment like this last night. Was out with friends I used to work with and one of them commented on my nail colour. She asked if I got it from QVC as I used to have quite an *ahem* addiction. I said it wasn't and I don't really watch QVC anymore. She said I wondered what had happened as she stopped getting loads of texts from me giving her heads up on TSVs. I need to sort out my Smashbox lipglosses. I have a few that are at the end of their lives. These are my definite HG lipglosses though.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. A confession... I forgot a couple of ins...
Hydraluron and Peptalash bought when going to Boots supposedly for nail polish remover and hair spray (I did get those)
I also bought a bottle of Dove firming lotion - I am trying (yet again) to lose some weight and my one big fear of succeeding is ending up with saggy skin - so hopefully this will help.
Just UU a large sample of Clinique's moisture surge. WBA - it's great how it can get so much moisture into my skin without making it greasy. I'll be looking out for a good GWP offer and will then indulge (I feel it's a bit expensive without.)
Oh and for calloused feet - get the emjoy micro pedi. Best beauty gadget I've ever bought by a mile - so much easier and more effective than doing my feet manually with a foot file.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Emjoi-Micro-Pedi-Portable-Pedicure-Device/dp/B005XUNG5I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347090734&sr=8-10 -
UU this morn - Garnier Ultralift Day - WBA - love this, smells nice and sinks into my skin really well and leaves it feeling plumped up. Have loads of minis to work through first, been saving for hols but have gone a little OTT! Would like to try the serum/moisturiser next as that seems to have really great reviews and I like the idea of combining the two products.
My hand cream also ran out at work yesterday - REN Vetiver 7 Hand & Body Cream - I wasn't sure about the strong fragrance of this one at first but I grew to love it and the texture was fab - WBA
The above led to an IN as I had no hand cream left in the stash (although plenty of cream that probably would have done just as well) so I got anatomicals help the paw hand cream last night while I was food shopping in Morrisons - total bargain at £1 from the clearance shelves.
I'll whisper this..... has anyone had any bargains from the Superdrug sale???
Enjoy the weekend everyone - OH is veryyyyyy grumpy at the moment, I might just leave him to it and take myself shopping0 -
Morning all.
As predicted I have uu to report -
Ikea Body Scrub - at last, a very LHJ, WNBA. It's OK but I got really fed up with it. Moving onto a mini Champneys one now which might just be one use.
Mandara Spa - Citrus spice shower gel - WBA, love this.
I haven't bought anything in the 10p Superdrug sale, haven't even bothered looking tbh. Did wonder what Boots will do with all their old No7 stuff as they are replacing all the makeup it would seem. I love their eyeshadows so would be interested if they were selling them off.
Have a lovely day everyone, enjoy the sun.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

My OH have been away for 5 nights this week. He frequently stays in hotels and after joining this challenge I told him to stop bringing home hotel toiletries apart from body lotions because I use those as a hand cream. This week he told that he is bringing home this hotel's toileteries because I would like the brand. Today I opened up a big bag of La Source, Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries. Well pleased so now I have got 5 x 27ml shampoos, 5 x 27ml body lotions, 5 x 27ml body wash, 5 x 50ml conditioners, 8 x soap bars, 2 nail files, 1 x vanity kits and 2 x loofah's. Some of them might become Christmas presents though.
I UU to declare, Cyclax SPF 50 body lotion, this is my favourite sun lotion brand so will buy again once I find a shop that sells it. It sinks in brilliantly and does not irritate my skin. This one I bought in a surf shop in Cornwall. No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23
Boots points:£39.21. Extra money in 2012:£674.59. In 2013 £603.48. 2014: £85. 2015: £0 :j0 -
An unexpected IN from the postman this morning. Murad Intensive Wrinkle Reducer. This was a send off offer in Marie Clare that I'd forgotten about. Think I will wait until my skin has settled down after the holiday to use it. I am using Dermalogica cleanser and toner at the moment from a kit that I bought with a Groupon offer. I have already used up the moisturiser on holiday plus nearly finished up the samples of pre cleanser and redness relief. Dermalogica is way out of my price range so unless it has a miraculous effect on my skin or I see a great offer I would be unlikely to buy it again.3 stone down, 3 more to go0

The C+P doesn't have a very overpowering smell of rose but it's there. The ingredient is "rose petal oil." I got mine from John Lewis, they had a big display of them.
IBST is the first LE product other than C+P that I've tried - I haven't properly used it yet as I have another toner nearly finished that I want to use first.
Thanks for the suggestions for my mum - she's not a big "treatment" person unfortunately! She's never had her nails done, not even on her wedding day! Her job + housework means that a manicure would last about a day!
One UU for me this morning:
Body Shop mango body scrub: WNBA, I got this as part of a mega-cheap set at Christmas. I find the scrubs too oily, they make my shower really slippery!0
