How to tune channels on an old Toshiba TV?

I have an old Toshiba 1400RB portable TV. Original remote is lost but my 1 4 all (using code 0508) manages most things including a menu for brightness, contrast etc. But nowhere can I find a way to get it to either auto-tune or tune in individual channels (user manual also awol).

Any suggestions received gratefully.

(what applies to any basic old Toshiba TV may apply to this one)

I had thought of that too, but at nearly £20 inc postage for a telly worth £15 it does not seem worth it - and the one for all already controls most things on it. Any other suggestions?

You could try downloading instruction manuals for some old Toshiba TV's from this link, your set may use similar tuning methods.

On our old TV there were two buttons on the dropdown.

To tune use the the buttom that was a dot with an arrow pointing to the right.

Once you get the right channel press the channel select up and down

To store this press the button with the dot between to hyphens.

???/It would make more sense if you had those buttons in front if you ???

No drop down panel on the TV so I guess it's all done via the remote on this one.

Trying cledor's suggestion - the tosh manual for the most basic set they have on their list shows that when you press MENU on the remote a SETUP option appears. Falls at the first hurdle with me as MENU only brings up brightness, contrast controls etc. Hoping that someone who had just a telly like mine and still has the instructions see this thread...

have you tried using a different code in your remote, on my universal ones some codes do more than others when programmed in.

my toshiiba is 189, dont know if you have your remotes code book still.

Try pressing the menu button TWICE - it may bring up a 2nd level.

Tried that alread as the 1-4-all MENU button toggles thru brightness, contrast, colour etc rather than bringing up a real menu with a setup option.
  • I have an old Toshiba tv with a replacement remote and I can't tune it in for the video channel, it picks up the video ok but I don't know what to do to save it, when I change channels it loses it again. Any ideas?
