A "Four Bird Roast" (Chicken, turkey, duck and goose: imagine a mutant rolled pork joint) for £9.99 from ALDI was the centrepiece.
However, ASDA let us down on the cheeses. There was a very nice, "rolled back" selection on offer, but, as usual, it wasn't actually on sale anywhere. Thanks for nothing, Andy.
PS. An old Oz Clarke tip for Xmas wines. The traditional Xmas dinner is an "assault course" of flavours. For the main course, a Valencia Dry white will stand up to all the flavours without overpowering them. For the pudding, especially Xmas pudding, a sweet Moscatel de Valencia. Eat a mouthful of Xmas pud. Take a sip of the wine. Then the two together. The sum of the parts is greater than the whole. Now you have time to snap them up when they're on offer.
I love Valencia & its wine:rotfl:

I will post my thoughts once I have a chance to consider but in view of the OH it will have to be turkey and lots of it (although the turkey is already sitting in the freezer having bought it reduced from £29 to £7 earlier in the year-BBE date 2014!)£36/£240

I can't take part in this challenge, as i just buy some chicken from costco as my contribution, then bring extras like schloer.
Good luck all, i think if you start from now, it's definately do-able.£36/£240

One thing I meant to add last night was "veggie" stuff.
My Son is a veggie and he has the Quorn roast for his "meat" - as soon as I see it for £2 per roll I normally buy it.
It can easily be bought for £2.20 at the minute, but £2 should be available.
We also do him Linda Mc sausages wrapped in stuffing.
This is going to be a very popular thread and hopefully some savings can be made with all the tips.:xmastree: :xmassign:

I hope the thread will be popular. So many families this year are like myself, with reduced income for whatever reason.
I don't see the harm in aiming for our dream christmas still but without eating our savings. (literally) Or getting further in to debt.
If closer to Christmas people have to comprimise a little then it is no harm. It is worth a try.
My first goal is to sort out my freezer. I aim to have 1 draw for just christmas food items by next weekend.£36/£240

What a lovely sounding menu.
I don't even know how many I'm catering for this year, it might just be me and hubby, so I'm not going to get too much in advance. Besides which, my freezers are pretty full, so not much room for anything else.0 -
Errr wow thats ALOT of food, it sounds yummy.
I won't be taking part as i don't make xmas dinner, i never have it was't worth doing when it was just me(so i went to my mums), then when i had the kids my pareents/inlaws invited us for dinner so we take turns, one day when i've my own big house with a decent size kitchen i'll invite everyone to my house for dinner.
I'm lucky i don't need to do a big xmas shop, wich is juts aswell as i cut my shopping way back around the end of nov time i hate shopping when it's busy and i swear they put prices up abit on normal items. I buy sholer and we'll prob have a chinese on xmas eve aswell, xmas morning breakfast is usually toast or bananas, if we eat to much we'll never eat all our dinner.DEC GC £463.67/£450
