I wanted to get rid of a £17 APG which was a bit higher than I would normally be happy using. The SA was lovely and just called over to a supervisor for some assistance. Supervisor has a look, gets out her phone and speaks to someone saying "we have one of these funny vouchers". She asked me "where did you get this" and me, thinking she meant the receipt as it was on the front of the APG, said "here" :rotfl:. I assumed the problem was because of its value. I asked "why, is there something wrong?" She replied "this is a fake". I tried to (vaguely!) explain that some items worked out much better value in Tesco but she just pointed to the barcode and said "see this 999, that means it's a fake".
I know now from searching through this thread that all APGs over £9.99 will have a 999 in the barcode but didn't know this at the time and had never thought to look before. Obviously, neither did she! If I'd have known, I would have told her that but all I could think was "flip, maybe I've put the receipt through twice" or something! It really threw me and all I could think was that I had maybe done something wrong!
She said that there is "another website" giving out fake vouchers when you put in your receipt details and that must be where I got it from. I told her I just followed the link when I went through Google. She went on about how high it was and the SA (who was on my side, bless her) was also trying to justify to the supervisor the reason for it being high! She told me that they had received one for over £33 that was fraudulent and that they had been told to now look out for any with 999 in the barcode as that meant they were fake.
A manager woman came along, didn't really add anything more, just said again what the supervisor had said, she told me to go through Asda.com and do it again. It was so embarrassing.
Needless to say, I wasn't able to use it so just lucky I had the cash on me.
Because I had now got myself into a flap and had other transactions to do, I ended up mixing my two other shops up and have now come away with a £19 APG instead of two small ones!!!!I'll be scared to use it now! Also, I had intended to use a few smaller APGs on the other two transactions but after being accused of the first one being fake, I didn't want to pull out a few more!!!
I wouldn't panic about using your next one. I have several with the same barcode on them as they're all over £10. It just means that they have to be put in manually. Hth.:)0 -
For all those that have phones that can use apps it may be worth downloading the Asda app. In the event that your APG is queried you will be able to show the staff easily and within minutes that your APG is genuine by inputting the receipt details in front of them via the app.:j:j:j:j0

thank you! Especially about the not at Asda bit
edit - am finding the cleaning one much more challenging in terms of knowing what my APG will be and trying to keep it to a manageable level. Heading out to try shortly and will post results later.
This is a godsend for any like me who are packing kids off to Uni - it is so lovely to be able to sort out a goody bag (crate) of hair/cleaning stuff at these prices. Really does make a difference.

Can everyone check their APG's that are over £10 that the barcode is 9918422269992 please?:)0

CAPTAINBLONDECHICK - do you mind me asking which store you had problems in? I used a high value APG last night (mess up me sums when doing the shampoo) but the lady couldn't have cared and just stuck it through and didn't mark the receipt. I did say did she not want to sign up but inbetween yawns she said "nah, s'alright". Needless to say I was a good girl and it won't be reused. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent ~ Eleanor Roosevelt0

Night all, sweet dreams. :A:A:A
All APGs in safe and sound. Forgot about the extra 10% bit so couple of mine have gone over what I like to keep them at. Going to stop on the hair care one now I definitely have enough. I don't know how you old cottagers kept up with DTD. Only dipped my toes in on the tail end of that one, never got my head around it soon enough. I'm going to move on to either dental or cleaning if it is still on tomorrow. But I think I might give the cider a try as DD1 likes that.
I was a cottager and trust me it was easier because it was only every 24 hours, this is like a baby that needs feeding every 3 hours:eek::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Can I just ask, what's the glitch with the hair dyes? I have just checked the only two confirmed ones I've seen posted and they're both n/a at Ts......
Kadison what colours are you looking for? Sorry not sure if anyone answered you yet:(Beware!!!! Glitching is addictive:rotfl:0 -

Poor you, when it happened to me with a receipt just over £10 they made me go to customer services who sorted it out immediately and couldn't see what the SA was fussing about.
Just try it again on a different day or different store.

:eek::eek::eek:
How awful for you. Couple of mine have gone over £10 because I forgot about the extra 10%.
This is actually quite worrying if that is what they think is happening with large APGs, just shows they are not as clever as us. I was reading about how the barcodes work on another thread here this morning. I had imagined the large number of APGs would be flagging the glitching items to them and some IT bod somewhere would be working his socks off trying to program it right.0 -
Right housework needs doing now! Got some coupons from Tesco in the post this morning :lovethougI made a mistake once, believeing people on the internet were my virtual friends. It won't be a mistake that I make again!0
