Gough Nuts are meant to be the creme de la creme of tough toys apparently..

  • Thanks for the further suggestions! I've seen the Kong toys in shops - they look great but unfortunately my big dog won't play with toys like that, he only seems to like squashy toys and simply ignores rubber bones and ropes.... but with the squashy toys he sees it as a mission to destroy them! He was so happy with his new squashy rugby ball - went quiet for ages then I found the stuffing all over the floor where he'd gnawed the seams apart! I might order one of the Tuffy toys although I don't hold out much hope of it lasting!

I was at an open day for Hearing Dogs a few weeks ago and one of the stalls was selling tough toys that had actually been designed for tigers & lions!

If you want their phone number send me a pm - they are not cheap though!

    Coconut - lasts for months!
Wooden bowling balls from skittles set - car boot sale cheapie, lasted months too.

Mind you, these both hurt a lot if you've one like mine who throws them at you!

Dear OP, we have the same problem as you. Our Basset has a hobby of pulling toys apart. He hates Kong toys, but we went to the USA a couple of years ago, and found a Chewguard Dragon in Petsmart. Anyway, I've found the exact same one on Amazon for you :)

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Baby-Dragon-Mini-chewguard-Coral/dp/B0035XUBKI/ref=sr_1_10?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1372446883&sr=1-10&keywords=dog+toy+dragon

Anyway, my dog loves it, it has had one repair on the seams in all the time he's had it- but there is no stuffing, it's squeaky and it's very durable.

Failing that, there are Danish Design toys that last a while too. If you can get hold of a Maurice The monkey that's a good one and its my dog's other pal ;)

    HTH :D

What about a black kong?- they are supposed to be well 'nigh indestructible!!-.

They're really not! Mutt took them as a challenge and they lasted approx. 3 months before she chewed the top off. I actually found the dental dumbbell shaped kong (not sure they make them any more) lasted longer because she played with it as opposed to just chewing it. Have you tried stuffing kongs and freezing them, to make them more interested? TM isn't at all interested in nylabones or chewy toys, but a kong stuffed with yoghurt and banana keeps her going for a couple of hours. Handy if I'm going out for a few hours.
Otherwise it's nylabones and boomer balls, although I did buy too big a boomer ball and had to confiscate it after it and mutt got carried away and went through the fence.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

My dogs main aim in life is to destroy a squeak within 5 minutes, and usually destroys the rest of the toy within a day.

I bought a sturdy squeeky ball from Home Bargains, for £1. It's a Bob Martin "Cool Dude." It has tiny legs on it, so when you throw it it bounces in different directions. This lasted a day or 2 before he'd pushed the squeak inside, but the ball was still whole. I'd bought him another one (for Christmas :D ) and decided to give it him. When the squeak worked loose, my husband pulled it out, then superglued it back in. A few weeks later, and it still squeaks and is still whole!

Our Home Bargains no longer have this in stock, but if my dog eventually destroys this toy, I'll have no hesitation to pay full price at a different shop.

I'd never thought of a coconut - what a great idea! I'm definitely getting one for my boy, he destroys absolutely everything so I gave up on 'dog toys' months ago. His longest lasting 'toy' is one of my old walking boots. He buries it, then digs it up when he wants something to have a fight with and then lovingly buries it again.
