Would a dash-cam help?

Be careful of that one, they say they are in Wales but if you click on their contact details, you'll discover they're actually in the kingdom of far far away. They haven't started off well by attempting to mislead prospective customers about their location.
I was scammed by a China based eBay seller who sent a fake dash-cam. I was told by eBay that I would have to send the fake item back to China if I wanted a refund, despite the listing expressly stating that they were "UK based." I got a refund from the credit card company in the end but it was several months of hassle.
My suggestion is to look at Techmoan's reviews on YouTube and buy from either a reputable UK retailer or an eBay seller that has a genuine address in the UK (not some warehouse) so you have a way to enforce your statutory rights. You may pay a bit more than you would from China-based sellers on eBay, but you'll be far more likely to get a genuine product.
just posted to give OP some insight into ones available.

GPS, records when your car is bumped whilst parked etc
Looks good as it seems to have an internal battery too. Good if you need to re-charge the sat nav at the same time. Couldn't see that function with the Roadhawk.

Thanks everyone for all the ideas about a dash cam, it is certainly a lot cheaper than last time I looked. I think I will make an in depth study and buy one. I am always a bit loathe to leave something on display in my parked car when it is unattended and it is a hassle to take it out every time I park up.
With my accident the last claims person I spoke to is going to send the signed statement to the other driver's insurance company and try to get my liability down. I think if I had a dash cam there would be no doubt she was to blame.0
