You shouldn't be sorry for asking anything on here, you don't have to justify this to anyone! Ignore the wolves on here.
I would personally recomend you speak to a good local solicitor, nearly all firms have some sort of litigation department. Smaller firms tend to have more time to spend on your case and you will usually get a better service. Large firms from the tele tend to be...well you know.
Ring around a few in your local area and ask them if they do a free 1/2 hour consultation. Most do for litigation matters, this is a good way for you and your solicitor to gauge how sucessful your complaint is likely to be. Remember they want/need your business.
Also be aware, virtually all personal injury cases will be done on a no win no fee bases (conditional fee arrangment) This is not some generous offer the companies on the tele make it out to be, nearly all cases are done this way as it is the system that came in to replace legal aid. You shouldn't have to pay anything! If the solicitor thinks your case is weak he might not take it on or will offer to do it for a fee but I wouldn't recomend that.
Without knowing the details but reading what you said above I think one would certainly be interested.
Hope this helps.
p.s. If you are in the Somerset area I can recomend a few, but it is wise to see one locally.
Thank you - not in the somerset area but appreacite your help on this guys0 -

Any compensation award will take months, if not years, to come through. How is that going to help your mum? You need social services, not a solicitor.
This is out of order, and also not true.
The OP has come on here asking for advise on finding a solicitor for an event that has really impacted on his life. Who are you to speak like this to him/her? He isn't asking for a debate on the rights or wrongs of his claim.
Maybe he plans to use savings to get a cleaner in for house chores and then replace that later with his compensation?
Either way its none of your business and not what he asked about.
The money takes around 4 to 6 months to come through on a straightforward case.0 -

I would agree with this.
OP although you are not agreeing with some of the posts they very well might have a point and quick chat with a local solicitor should sort it out for you.0 -
As an OP myself I agree wholeheartedly with Astaril
I haven't been on this forum for a while and this rudeness makes me wonder how many people keep away from this forum to avoid this unpleasantness.0 -

I thought it was just me! I am new here, just came on yesterday and am shocked by it!
Well thanks for making me feel a bit more normal!0 -
I don't think it's rudeness, I just think some new people don't get the answers/advice they want to hear and don't like it ( not saying you, just saying generally on these forums)'' Ok Marge, if anyone asks, you require 24-hour nursing care; Lisa's a clergyman; Maggie is seven people and Bart was wounded in Vietnam ''0

I think it can be both. I've always found MSE to be really good and helpful. But people do like to pass moral judgement and grill you on it when you just want some simple advice.
I've been a viewer on the site for quite a while and in the 'old days' it was people helping out but something seems to have changed.0 -
to me it's not about the actual advice given, is about rudeness, assumptions about the PO's situation outside the specific bit of information they are asking for.
It's a bit like someone in the street pushing a wheelchair asking for directions to the nearest solicitor and being told they should see social services instead...
those seen as soft targets are treated particularly badly, e.g. newer posters and/or those with some kind of vulnerability/disability
most boards are OK, for some reason a couple of forums are quite unpleasant, compared to most0 -
OP has asked for advice about a law firm. Not for people's opinions as to whether he is entitled to compensation. That is, ultimately, what Courts are for.
OP - which area are you in? There isn't necessarily a huge need to be local to a law firm although it is often convenient.0 -
I agree, you will probably feel "safer" with a local law firm. Someone you can pop in and visit if you want an update rather than getting passed pillar to post trying to track someone down by phone.
Do start with your home insurance (or perhaps membership of a TU) to see if you have any legal cover. These often have free helplines that will give you a starter for ten.
Good luck!Thinking critically since 1996....0
