Hi
Can anyone recommend a good law firm dealing in ‘accidents not your fault’. Basically I was on the bus moving my eldery mother when the driver turned a corner very sharply and I went flying into a metal bar which should have been covered up (this has been admitted).
The end result is a broken hand which has been confirmed by the doctor with photographic evidence.
Its not something I' particular would do but it has left me in a bad way and the bus driving and comany have admitted fault and I’m wary of ads for injury lawyers etc so wondered if any MSE people had a good experience with one

Have a look at your household insurance policy (if you have one), and see if there is any mention of legal assistance cover on there.
This is offered with some policies, and if you have it, you should be able to contact your insurers and get their advice.
They may be able to arrange and pay for an initial consultation with a suitable lawyer.0 -
So what are you hoping to achieve? What loss have you suffered?0

You must stay seated whilst the bus is moving, there are signs on the bus stating this. If it's standing room only you must use the handrails provided. If you were not seated or using the handrails you will struggle to win this one.0

OP, I'd run from this forum now while you have the chance. "Compensation" is a dirty word here, regardless of the situationOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

My mother relies on me for getting around in her wheelchair which is impossible at this time due to my injury. I also am struggling to cook and clean for her due to my injury which is difficult due to her dementia.
The bus wasnt actually moving at the time and had come to a stop - then without warning it started up again and then went round a tight bend shortly afterwards.
I realise people are wary of compensation and I'm sorry if people are thinking I am after a cheap buck. I was wary about posting this but I've always had a good experience on MSE before so wasnt expecting any kind of 'moral questioning'!0 -
If they have admitted fault, why not see what they will offer you first.
If youre not happy with that, then go for the no win no fee lawyer.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

What warning do you expect when the bus starts to move? Is the driver to shout "moving" to let you know?
Any compensation award will take months, if not years, to come through. How is that going to help your mum? You need social services, not a solicitor.0 -

Apart from finding your advice very patronising - if I want to be put on trial and asked indepth questions than I will expect any opposition to do it any not you.
If the bus driver stops at an alighted stop then I would expect him to look in his mirrors to see any passenger that is moving towards the exit or in this case moving a heavy wheelchair. When we board and say where we are getting off than I expect some kind of due care. Obviously what he did was stop at the bus stop and because nobody at the bus stop actually boarded it, he moved off again quickly whilst we were still in the process of offboarding. This happened in the space of about 5 seconds and its obvious that he was oblivous to us.
And as for the social services point - how do you know what the situation is. Why are forums full of people who never actually assist you with your question but ask lots of irrelevant questions, uneducated statements and presumption remarks - just so you can pass moral judgement.
As people would say - read the OP!0 -

You shouldn't be sorry for asking anything on here, you don't have to justify this to anyone! Ignore the wolves on here.
I would personally recomend you speak to a good local solicitor, nearly all firms have some sort of litigation department. Smaller firms tend to have more time to spend on your case and you will usually get a better service. Large firms from the tele tend to be...well you know.
Ring around a few in your local area and ask them if they do a free 1/2 hour consultation. Most do for litigation matters, this is a good way for you and your solicitor to gauge how sucessful your complaint is likely to be. Remember they want/need your business.
Also be aware, virtually all personal injury cases will be done on a no win no fee bases (conditional fee arrangment) This is not some generous offer the companies on the tele make it out to be, nearly all cases are done this way as it is the system that came in to replace legal aid. You shouldn't have to pay anything! If the solicitor thinks your case is weak he might not take it on or will offer to do it for a fee but I wouldn't recomend that.
Without knowing the details but reading what you said above I think one would certainly be interested.
Hope this helps.
p.s. If you are in the Somerset area I can recomend a few, but it is wise to see one locally.0
