    Well that solves that.

VW have said that they are not looking to make any further offers.

Also not to contact them further regarding the matter as they consider it closed.

Had you down as a VAG buyer - I know a number of the taxi drivers have been moanign about the turbos on the Octavias and your symptoms sounded familiar to their complaints. Just didn't want to carry on the guess work as you didn't want to name them.

Potentially worth getting on a VAG/specific car owners club site as they might be able to point you to a local specialist who would be able to do the whole lot cheaper than the dealer.

They might also have ideas on ways to stop it happening again rather than swapping like for like as the dealer would potentially do.

Good luck getting it fixed up. Appreciate times are hard at the moment.

Pay the money then go elsewhere for future servicing and don't buy another.

As others have said some of the items are certainly wear and tear but oil leaks etc are not. So you in effect might be getting 50% off the relevant leaks.

But from what you are saying it almost a 4 year old car?

    Question for OP.

Have they said it needs 2k of work or have they given you a pretty red yellow green checksheet suggesting it may need this work in the next year (along with detailed quotes for each item)

Main dealers love doing this when things are quiet. Get you in with a cheap service and MOT offer and then tell your car could need all the things doing between now and your next service. It wouldnt have passed its MOT if the bushes were that worn and it had oil leaking everywhere.

Also as your in tears about the 2k bill along comes your new best friend - the VW salesman who can get you out your shed and into a new September plate car for only £199 a month and your horrible car. What a nice man he is and how lucky he happened to be there.

My advice would be take it to a trusted local independent and get them to have a look. Experience tells me they will say that half of what has been advised doesnt need doing for a while and the other half will do but they can do it at half the price.

The fact VW are also being so funny with you also makes me wonder if this is the case. They dont want to subsidise a customer who has fallen for a dealer hard sell. 10% is nothing when they make a 90% mark up on parts sold to dealer.

  • Reputable brand?

Sounds like it'll be fit for the scrap heap in another 3 years.

VW have been trading on a reputation for quality that their cars haven't been stacking up to for sometime. Firm is now so big they've taken their eye off the ball.

Let me get this straight... the bill was £2000 and you paid it? Now you're wanting it reducing?

Or is the £2000 just an estimate of work that needs to be done?

Its an estimate of the works to be done - none have been completed yet. (though will need doing soon as MOT due Shortly)
