So I guess I need to pay this out then? :S I don't understand why there are charges for gas when I've not used any? how do they get away with that? and can I disconnect it completely?0 -

Now, We have eco 7 heaters, and storage heater for water, electric cooker, etc etc, no gas at all, and the landlord is my father in law and i've asked him about it, and he confirmed no gas either.
So why are EDF hounding lettings at " the occupier " for a gas bill between a period of time i've been living here, for gas, when there is none? what should I do as they're now threating to get a warrant to install prepay or disconnect the supply, ( none of which bothers me ) I just don't want any court costs to arise to me or anyone to enter my property without me being there.AmnestyJon wrote: »Well I only realized we had this gas box today as I asked landlord again about it. and so he pointed me to it, ..

No without your LL's permission. And you cannot disconnect it-the supplier must do that.
The SC's pay for metering, meter reading and maintenance of the network, just the same as on all your other utility accounts. As already pointed out, if you don't want to pay it, switch to an NSC tariff. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
That's the issue though, what is the bill for?
The standing charges must be referenced on the bill e.g. standing charge at X over X days. The readings will be shown on the bill and the advance would shown as a kwh value e.g. X kwh at X.
So, what can you see?
Your meter may be stopped or just not in use. If the supplier was charging due to a stopped meter, they would have to change it first.
The bill from what I can see has nothing written on it, it's one of them 'final' letters now, the others were just demanding money.
People I've spoke to said because there's no name addressed on it, it's harder for them to like, push it forward?0 -

Are you saying in "3-4" months you haven't contacted the supplier at all? Ignoring such communication is never "smart". The "people you have spoken to" are not smart either because deemed "liability" is a matter of fact which automatically follows from your tenancy.0 -
If you can't see any difference in readings or kwh charged, it should be standing charge.
I suggest you contact your supplier and ask for an explanation of the charges.
If its in the name of The Occupier, they will just change it. It is then up to you to prove your tenancy to them if they get any dates of occupation wrong.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
Hmm, I'm contacting them tomorrow, I spoke to my landlord who said when they lived in the property, they never paid gas or any standard charges or anything, they advised me to tell the gas company to just come and remove it/disconnect it if they want to, and that I shouldn't have to pay anything and they would support me if things got 'out of hand' with them?.0

But you'll then have to pay a disconnection charge, and the standing charges accrued will still have to be paid for!
All you have to do is switch to an NSC tariff, as already advised several times. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
If you with the same supplier the landlord was and they don't offer a no standing charge tariff, your landlord never told the supplier he/she was in there hence paying none...its a common landlord trick to avoid the standing charges.
Perhaps when he/she changed the property from elec+gas to elec only, they should have had the gas supply disconnected. This would prevented the issue and your charges so in terms of blame, that sits squarely with your landlord.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
Well I'll ask about swtiching to a NSC, but I fear that the £100 bill is still going to be wanted to be paid? I'm meeting with the landlord tomorrow to ring EDF up and see what they say..0
