I am also now going through the process with ESA with my daughter. Who's deemed disabled enough to get DLA but fit for work :wall:

Many people who claim DLA also work. Being in receipt of DLA does not equate to unable to work.

In fact often it is the result that someone IS able to work thanks to the DLA they receive.

I know that, I was just stating the differences between doctor's or HCP opinions. Unfortunately my daughter isn't able to work atm. Nor for the foreseeable future. Not the way things are going atm. Hopefully it will settle down through time. She wants to work, is just unable to.

Many just give up and wait their 6 months to put another claim in hoping that it works next time.

There is no 6 month period before another claim with DLA, it is possible to reclaim immediately, even if circumstances have not changed.

There is no restriction on making a new claim for DLA, it is even possible to make one while appealing a failed claim, although I am not suggesting that is necessarily the right thing to do.

I called up the DLA yesterday after waiting 7 weeks to see how my claim was getting along. They said a decision has been made but wont tell me over the phone , they said i would have to wait for the letter. Is this bad news? The last letter i recieved from them was to say they are writing to my consaltant for a report. Is it normal for them not to tell you over the phone? Iv also read that if you are awarded DLA that most payments go into your account before you recieve the letter.

    Any advice please

    thanks

My childs money went in my account 2 weeks before I received the award letter during this time I gave them a quick call to see which rates were awarded, which they told me.
The renewal took much longer than the original claim, I posted the forms back in January of this year and the decision wasn't made until the beginning of August. I made a few calls in that time and all they would say is that it was being processed.
If they have to write for further information off other people (Doctors, schools etc) I think this can make the claim take longer as they have to wait for a response.

From what I know they aim to process claims within 12 weeks.

EDIT Should have read the whole thread before replying. Sorry to hear you've been unsuccessful. When I first applied on behalf of my child it was turned down, I reapplied around 5 months later and this was successful.
I would advise that you appeal the decision rather than make a new claim, if it is successful then it will be backdated to the original claim date.

    Best of luck.
