I called up the DLA yesterday after waiting 7 weeks to see how my claim was getting along. They said a decision has been made but wont tell me over the phone , they said i would have to wait for the letter. Is this bad news? The last letter i recieved from them was to say they are writing to my consaltant for a report. Is it normal for them not to tell you over the phone? Iv also read that if you are awarded DLA that most payments go into your account before you recieve the letter.
Any advice please

When we asked about our sons award they did tell us an award had been made but not the level.0

its just mad! i go to rehab 3 days per week for a brain injury in which ill be there for at least another 4 months +, which was from a motorbike accident. I provided loads of evidence, hospital/rehab paperwork etc. I had the form filled out for me by a benifit specialsit advisor. I really hope its not another appeal! But it looks that way as they would of just told me over the phone. I might try finding out today what the outcome is.0

They don't always tell you over the phone even if it is a positive result. They didn't tell us over the phone when we applied for my dd. She was awarded HRM and LRC. We received the letter and the back payment was in the account the next day. Hope that helps4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

I wouldn't say it's bad news because they never indicated anything over the phone. The person on the other end might had been a jobsworth or in a bad mood or anything.0

OMG it may then depend then whether the person is in a good mood on what they decide to tell the claimant.
They are there to administer the system not to put themselves above it.0 -
I think under the data protection act they aren't supposed to discuss cases anyway. So therefore not saying anything other than a letter is on the way is the correct procedure.
They're human like the rest of us and will react like anyone else. Perhaps it's the twentieth time they've been asked the same question in the last hour or so.0 -
I was told that I had been awarded something, but wouldn't tell me what (this was after asking for a reconsideration). I got a letter about 3 days later, and another form to fill in a day after that. This took them about a week and a half to update on the system, and the backpay has only just entered my account. I put my claim in at the beginning of may, so it's taken a fair while - tax credits have been informed, and nothing has happened with that yet either. It all does seem to take a very long time.0

The o/p says they received a letter saying DLA had written to their consultant. Perhaps the letter is about needing a medical. We can all assume it's reference this and that but only time will tell.0

Good luck Op... letter will no doubt arrive pretty shortly... I wouldn't read anything into the fact they wouldn't tell you decision over the phone. Hopefully your specialist was supportive of your claim... I would say their factual report will be crucial... when you get the decision make sure you get hold of a copy of it from DWP... regardless of what that decision is."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0

I wonder whether the '4 plus months' will cause the claim to fail, because I think the stipulation is: having the care needs for at least 3 months, and needing them for another 6 months minimum?Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0
