    This might sound obvious but you do scrape the plates first?

    I've delegated the job of emptying/filling the dishwasher to my 16 year old son, showed him what to do, make sure the arms rotate etc (Okay, he doesn't stack them quite how I would but I let him get on with it). I went to put a plate in the other day and noticed about a dozen small cocktail sticks stuck in the filter from the chicken satay we'd had the day before...looked like the old kerplunk game. I have now added a 'clear the plates/make sure there are no big wedges of wood left' step.
