Virginmedia line rental saver

I called VM to get their Rental Saver. I explained what I wanted, and 'David' said yes - it had just been introduced. Saying 'sign me up' he then said he thought it was ONLY for new customers and would have to investigate further*.
I was then told the change would take place from my next billing date (on 15/09/12). It turned out this was also incorrect, when you call, the date of your £120 payment is the start and expiry date (next year). Looking at my amount owed online, there was a £6.95 rebate which reflected the period TO the next billing date. There is then no phone line rental shown for the following month (a reduction of £13.90 on my usual bill).
I was told I would have to remember to call them on the same anniversary date next year to pre-pay once more which would prevent the monthly fee being reimposed. It's now in my diary.
*the T&C's state it is for new AND existing customers.0 -
Explain? Well, if you are unable to compare yourself, or indeed remember the recent wave of complaint at their latest price hike taking place at the year end.... And before you get buried in the smoke and mirrors of bundles and offers that expire note this -
Virgin Cable Line Rental is £13.90pm with no increase due.
BT currently is £14.60pm, rising to £15.45pm - £18pa DEARER!
A raft of other hikes are also due.

If you bothered to read my post i said "Shame they dont do something about their expensive call charges/ call bundles."
I cant see anywhere where i suggest that i am talking about their line rental charges.;)0 -

Have a look at this if you are a cable user.Call prices cheap. Is there anything wrong with it ? Not on it at present but thinking about it
18185 via their 0808 Freephone Number normally works out cheaper.

Its definitely cheaper to use then pay Virgin Media exorbitant call charges.0 -

Nice wriggle, but no sale. Their monthly Free Weekend package, provided (as BT) as standard with the line rental, is still £18pa CHEAPER. For those who have the nous to realise £18 buys a lot of additional call packages, it won't come as a surprise0 -

But then, with cheaper line rental it doesn't really matter - does it? You get £18 to spend on bundles or indirect services. It's great having the choice.0 -

Virgin last put up there line rental in June 2011 to match BT,s price at the time. If people think they want put it up again in future to the same or nearer BTs price , they are living in dreamland. ( At that time they use to make a big about thing their evening rate starting at 6pm. They soon followed BT).BT line rental is only currently £8.40p a year dearer,£18 from Jan 2013. Or £9 if your a line rental saver customer.
Whilst BT standard rental is currently dearer. It does include inclusive caller display, and inclusive 0845 calls.
VM charge an extra £27 a year for caller display a popular feature these days.So bangs goes the saving in that case.
VM charge a stonking 10.22p a minute to call a 0845 number.
VM current call connection charge is 14.94 p a call. BT currently charge 13.1p going up to 13.87 p in Jan 2013.
VM current daytime rate is 9.94p BT daytime. BT is 7.95p going up to 8.41p in Jan.
VM Evening and Weekend Call Bundle is currently £4.60 a month.BT,s is £3.15
VM 24/7 call bundle is currently £8 a month.BT,s is £4.90.
Even if you didnt choose to have caller display the so called savings of £8.40p , £18, or £9 on line rental compared to BT would easily be wiped out by the higher call/bundle charges, and if you took just VM line rental the 70p, 1.50 or 75p a month saving on line rental wouldnt go very far if you were using an indirect supplier.
So as i far i can see it only goes to prove OldGreyFox comments about higher call charges /call bundles were correct.Fair play to him or her.0 -
The point - was that previously, Virgin was the most expensive telephone service supplier - being more expensive in every respect to BT.
The interesting fact now, is that BT have repeatedly in micro-managed their line rental increases, resulting in BT (from January) being £18.00pa more expensive than Virgin. After 40 years a customer of BT, the decision to move was very easy, and becomes financial worthwhile as time passes.
As I only use my line for inbound calls (mobile for outbound), I currently save money using Virgin than BT. Many others will be in a similar situation, but the fact remains that BT charge more for their standing charge than any other supplier, evidenced by the ongoing threads from people wishing to depart.
As Virgin and Kingston Communications the only other firms able to provide non-virtual telephone services, everything else is smoke and mirrors (Openreach), thank goodness for choice.0 -
Therein lies the point. Virgin are cheaper than BT for a phone line, so long as you don't actually use it to make any calls!

No my point was that Virgin Media,s Call Charges and Call Bundles were expensive. You poo-pooed the idea but was proven to to be incorrect. I didnt say anything about the line rental.;)
Yes the standard line rental is currently £8.40p cheaper a year and £18 from Jan 2013.( But Virgin have not announced their line rental increases yet,so it will probaly become less or be wiped out.)
In your circumstances it clearly suits you to have the choice to currently to be able to save less then 3p a day by using them.0
