faulty pump, stuck or broken mid postion valve (normally in the airing cupboard square box with three pipes into it) try moving the man lever on the side but you could have a gravity system with pumped heating are you sure the pump is working ?, broken room stat or programmer, air lock.

maybe he has a big taxi & lets face it she hasn't got alot to choose from.

Just how old is your heating system? Any chance this an elusive 'simple fix'? Is this a one or two pipe system? Where is the radiator that was tampered with in order of service?

Hi T_T, it's 30 years old but we were told to keep it going. I'm sorry I don't know if its a one or two pipe system. My husband asked a family member who told him to take the cover off the boiler. Anyway to cut a long short (for your benefit) the whole boiler has been turned off! No hot water in the morning!

Thank you for taking time to reply.

My central heating is working again. My husband did his best and I appreciate all your suggestions last night but today I had to call in the specialists.

Thank you, I love this site.

I was sooooo pleased CH working on Thursday but last night the rads didn't come on. The thermostat was high, apparently the fault is the valve! OH is insisting on replacing this himself and reckons he'll drain the system down and buy the part from Srewfix.

Well you have two choices. You either let your husband do what he wants although you have to deal with the challenge that you don't think he can hack it but he does in which case its a question for the Marriage Board or you call the guy back who actually didn't fix it and who you have presumably paid.

I'll re-ask my question from above slightly differently. What was supposed to have been wrong with it?

    Cheers

This is why I asked which radiator (in order of service) was at fault. I suspected it might have been a simply blockage. Although I must admit I was leaning more towards a blocked up rad rather than the rad valve itself.
