Nope, all of the children were fostered initially by people who had fostered other children prior to them. I am sure that they will grow up knowing their parents loved them so much they couldn't let them go and wanted them in their lives forever. They will know how much love and care they have received through their lives. They won't think about the money or be aware of it."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. It will come out in years to come that their guardians were paid hundreds of pounds a week to look after them.Nope, all of the children were fostered initially by people who had fostered other children prior to them. It will affect the child's sense of worth.0 -
Friend two spends every penny she receives on her children, they are very privilaged with what they do as well as independent edication. You seem to know a lot about the future of people you don't know, you have amazing powers."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." I don't understand why if you choose to have children of your own, you pay for them yourself, however if you choose to adopt/foster you get paid for it. Why not just remove the payments - surely it wouldn't put these people off.....if it did then surely it proves they are only in it for the financial rewards??0

wow 50k, we live as a family of four on a fifth of that, eat okay, go out, run a car etc so it can be done although a struggle sometimes. personally on that sort of money i would expect the government to say enough already, they have to claw it back somewhere. so take the raise, enjoy it, forget child benefit, until such time you need to apply for it again. Good luck i hope it works out for you.0

Shedboy you pose good questions. Friend two would most definitely have adopted them anyway but would have been stumped when the inevitable behavioural issues came out. The children she adopted were severely abused when infants/toddlers/pre-school aged. She's a single parent and with their behaviour so unpredictable, she has to be on hand to go immediately to their schools when they are excluded or when their behaviour anywhere they are gets out of hand. She's a single parent and without the adoption allowance would have nothing to live on as she is unable to work as despite them being in school, she has to be on hand so cannot work alongside. Believe me she is doing an amazing job with those children, one of which has come on leaps and bounds, the other is more challenging and she regularly attends MDT meetings to work through ways to assist them. Hats off to her. Some people may feel she is overly rewarded but she gives her all to those children and many people would have handed them back by now, with one third of all aoptions failing and breaking down you can see that adoption is not an easy option. If people were doing it for the money the adoptions would not break down because as soon as the children are taken back into the care of the LA the adoption allowance ends, one third of all adoptions break down and fail proving that for those people at least money is not a factor. Most adopted children have attachement issues or other difficulties, parenting them is hard work. You don't get weekends and evenings off and therapy costs money that is not often available from post adoption support. Friend two pays out of her allowance one to one therapy for both her children twice weekly, believe me I know she doesn't spend a single penny on herself and has no fancy holidays bar a week camping with the children."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." Dalai Lama0

There is a thread where an OP wondered if he could divert most of his income into a pension plan in order to maximise their benefit entitlements.
He thought he could live quite comfortably on a low salary topped up with benefits and have a huge pension pot when he was older (early retirement planned for his 50s).
It's a bit extreme but it does illustrate some legitimate loopholes/tweaks that an employee can make to improve their benefit position.

It can only really be done by those mortgage free or have no itention of buying and are single earners.
If someone had a mortgage (ie no HB) and needed p60 evidence to remortgage or buy it would be problematic.
But in reality it's no different to those who take advantage and are self employed to maximise benefits.
Loopholes are always there for some to take advantage of.0 -

Eg my friend is a single father (his wife died 3 years ago). After mortage, CTB and childcare he is left with £121 a month to feed, clothe and get to work. CB feeds his children currently, he will still get CB as earns pennies under the £50K, but this money for his 4 children pays their food.
Hi, completely off topic, but has your friend applied for widowed parents allowance? It would depend on his late wife's ni contributions, but when my dh passed away they totted all his up, and because we have young kiddies, I get paid (in effect) his state pension. Until I either remarry or they finish school. Which they haven't even started yet...

And you are very condescending. It's an internet forum. People are allowed differing opinions.Friend two spends every penny she receives on her children, they are very privilaged with what they do as well as independent edication. You seem to know a lot about the future of people you don't know, you have amazing powers.
I can't work out how a child finding the guardian was paid hundreds of pounds a week to look after them would NOT affect them when they are older. It's like finding out you were adopted when you are 16 and nobody has ever told you.0
