Thatched Property - save money.

Options
If you live in a thatched property check that you are not being charged a standing charge for surface water. This is an aspect that Water Companies do not advertise in their literature.

    Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately the Water Privatisation Act decreed that the default position would be that water companies must charge for surface water drainage; and occupants apply for relief from that charge.

This is why all occupants in, say, a 20 storey block of flats all pay.

However it is not just water from gutters that incur the charge, but water from any source e.g. from patios, drives etc and even water that runs off property onto a road - and hence the sewer system.

    Crazy system - agreed!

    P.S.
The water companies make no additional money for charging for surface water - see other threads
