Nappy rash

Caldesene is a wonderful powder for treating nappy rash quickly. For some reason it isn't readily available in England but is very popular in the USA. However, if you have any contacts in Ireland, it's available over the counter in pharmacies there.
I find that cornflour works for all but the sorest of bottoms, and that's when I use caldesene.0 -

we use lanes tea tree cream and it clears nappy rash, eczema etc. up within hours - it's fab.
Well, I couldn't find the lanes one in my local town, but I just bought a tube of Boots own tea tree antiseptic cream.
DD2 had a mild nappy rash, redness rather than spotty, which it sorted out almost immediately. And even more impressive, I've had stubborn eczema on both elbows for about 6 months now - have been regularly using E45 and sometimes hydrocortisone mild steroid cream on it with no real improvement. Half-heartedly put some tea tree cream on (not expecting much from an antiseptic cream with no moisturisers in it) and within 2 days it had virtually cleared up. Put some more on last night and it seems even better this morning.
Blimey. Thanks for that CP. DD1 sometimes gets little eczema flare-ups on the creases of her arms and legs, so will be using this rather than the steroid cream I had previously used.0 -
Nappy rash is caused by the bacteria from wee mixing with the bacteria left from poo - hence why so much worse through teething as poo and wee far more potent.
I found another good way depending on how old baby/toddler is, but this is only as an extra help it wont cure but helps it clear up quicker. If you have a baby or young toddler if you can get away with it dont bath them every day ( they dont need it that often that young anyway as they dont sweat stink etc unless they have just bathed in their dinner) so when the rash does flair back up you give extra baths and it seems to work wonders.
I used to bath mine every day but when the rash flared up had nothing extra left to sooth their bottoms downing the bathing amount so I could up it when rash flared up was excellent. Remember you clean their bottoms faces etc every day anyway when you change them. Avoid bubble bath etc as well particularly if it is thrush, If it is really sore and oozy a little salt in the bath to help clean!
Hope it helps0 -
My daughter has really suffered with nappy rash, mainly through teething, I tried every lotion and potion I could. Then my mum and dad had her for a couple of days while I went away and she had nappy rash at the time, they went out and bought a tub of vaseline for her and it worked wonders.
I didn't think it would as all these expensive lotions I was trying didn't do anything, but I had to eat my words when it did!! A tub of vaseline is now always readily available!!0 -
It really does sound like it horses for courses and it's a matter of finding what works for your little one.
We went back to the GP in the end after the allergic rash from the first thrush cream calmed down. She gave us some Timodine cream (hydrocortisone and anti-fungal) which did the trick in 24 hrs. We now use Metanium (recommended by one of the staff on a nursery visit) which seems to be a great barrier cream and stops our little one getting a bright red bum, although it does seem to stain clothes yellow, but she is growing out of them so fast this isn't really an issue.
Thanks to all for your suggestions, very much appreciated."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -
Dont forget tho that creams & powders can stop any 'oneway' liner from working - my son had a bout of bad nappy rash & changing to using just water to clean, then 'airing' till dry & then nappy with no creams or powder seemed to really help
ps I had a flare up of excema in the crease of my groin & for some reason I cant remember tried using a baby wipe....Oh my G*d did that sting! & burn for ages after! no wonder the poor babes scream at change time!I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0
