Civil Enforcement Ltd

Hello, I received a 'Parking Contravention Enforcement Notice' from above company in a Co-Op car park. Does anyone know this company? I ignored the initial notice and received final reminder today with threat of legal action. I intend to keep ignoring. Would anyone know if this is best course of action. Many thanks - your responses would be much appreciated. :)

Everyone here would know Civil Enforcement I would think. You are safe to ignore them. They use the normal threats but have never done court.

Oh, yes. We know Civil Enforcement. Probably the least appropriately named private ticketing company. They're not civil and they can't enforce anything. :)

Continue to ignore everything you get from them. Eventually, they’ll run out of empty threats and stop throwing good money after bad.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
  • Thank you all for responding. You've put my mind at rest. Shall keep ignoring :T
  • Hello again. After the 'Final Notice' and threat of legal action received end August last year, I didn't hear anything until now. I've now received a letter from Debt Recovery Plus Ltd saying I have to make payment within 7 days or will be passed to their solicitor to commence County Court proceedings. Also puts in the little threat that they are a member of the BPA and that "the courts do not look favourably on motorists or consumers who try to withhold information from operators when it has been asked for with genuine, reasonable and proper cause". Ok, got me a little worried but I think I should keep ignoring?? Any advice gratefully received. Thank you.

The usual hollow and meaningless threats. Just keep ignoring.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Debt Recovery Plus (and Zenith, who you'll be hearing from soon) are well known letters in the letter chain.

    Ignore them.

  • Thank you both for your replies. I shall take your advice and keep ignoring :) By the way, I shredded previous correspondence. Should I be keeping it?

Even if that bull was true, I personally would rather go through the court. In a court you have a chance to state your case, and the truth is the judge is going to know this company is fishing. The idea that the courts are somehow infuriated by people parking for 15 mins longer than they should have in a supermarket car park is laughable. Don't throw this stuff away because if it did come to court (it won't) it will all help your case and show what a bunch of scaremongerers they are, in fact a good lawyer might show that what they have done is harass you, far from being proper cause that could be an offence, and a criminal one not a matter of civil law. These letters hold no more legal weight than emails from wealthy nigerian businessmen who wish to deposit money into your bank account. I think if it ever did come to court the shady proceedings of these types of company would come under far more scrutiny than they would wish for.
  • Hello Hochiminh and thanks for the reply. OK, I'll hang on to this letter and any further (which hopefully I won't get because it does worry me a tad!). You do put it in perspective however, when you liken them to emails from wealthy nigerian businessmen! Now that is scary! Shall definitely ignore and hopefully they'll go away and leave me alone!
